Bye bye DOMA

I'm amazed there isn't already a thread on this  Perhaps people are too busy having steam pouring out of their ears?

Well, you'd better watch out, now I'm one step closer to getting the same productions under the law... err, I mean, recruiting middle schoolers! Sorry.. forgot the agenda for the day...

Congrats.

DOMA was a joke and I think most knew it would fall. Prop 8 was also a joke and I am sorry the SCOTUS did not rule on the merits. Assuming the court make up stays the same for the next few years, I think the next same sex marriage case that reaches the court will seal it's fate. I think it is only a matter of time before same sex marriages are allowed in all 50 states and you can go out and brain wash all the little kiddies you want.

Simple solution to make everyone happy:
(1) Get the government out of the marriage business. Call ALL such legal contracts (man/woman, man/man, woman/woman) "civil unions" with the same rights and responsibilities as they hold now.
(2) Let the churches "marry" whomever they want or don't want to. "Marriage" should strictly be a religious term.

Oh no - right! Soon enough people will be marrying multiple partners; next it will be people marrying animals. Marriage as we know it is over - and the end of times is near!

Seriously though, what a joke. Its about time they repealed stupid prop HATE (8).

Maybe this will be the final straw that broke the camel's back and force the social conservatives to stop wasting time in CA.

I don't view this less of a victory for gay rights and more for state rights. Section 2 of DOMA was left in place. It states: “No State, territory, or possession of the United States, or Indian tribe, shall be required to give effect to any public act, record, or judicial proceeding of any other State, territory, possession, or tribe respecting a relationship between persons of the same sex that is treated as a marriage under the laws of such other State, territory, possession, or tribe, or a right or claim arising from such relationship.”

It puts whether or not to recognize the union of same sex couples in the hands of the state.

My question is this...will there be the same support for striking down Roe V Wade and PPACA (Obamacare)? Those issues should remain at the State level as well.

davidmash 06-27-2013 08:37 AM

It does so because the group pursuing the Prop 8 dis not have standing. Given the majority decision do you really think checkout would let Prop 8 stand had the particolionats had standing?

If Harcourt make up remains the same till the next case rolls around, same sex marriage bans will fall.

It shows that there is a LITTLE, not much but a LITTLE common sense left. With the ongoing decadance in the world, the common sense will continue to drain away as the world gets even MORE filthy and corrupt.

interesting point, supporting demise of DOMA on 10th Amendment. This could result in strengthening the 10th.

I like it!

Sad That you would allow your hatred of gays to subvert equal rights. I hope that one day someone allows your rights to be subverted because they do not like you.

For the 1000th time on this forum, I don't "hate" gays or anyone. I hate their nasty behavior. It is YOU that uses such unfair claims in an effort to justify your own position on the issue.

Not surprising though. It's the standard, liberal modus operandi.

davidmash 06-27-2013 09:05 AM

You can claim anything you want. Your words betray your true feelings.

If you did not hate gays you would be able to provide a legal reason to prevent same sex marriage. As it is all you have are religious and moral ones.

I think wantonly happens if the court rules that a state may deprive people equal rights the next time a case come before the court. From the decisions I don't see that happening.

Wouldn't it be funny if people who make these types of comments were found out to be secretly having carnal knowledge of sheep?

DOMA forbid the use of common law marriages, legally acceptable in some states, to qualify a couple for federal benefits. The decision helps straights as well as gays because it preserves the right to be considered 'married' because of one's commitment and relationship with another person and not just because you have gained sanction from the State.

Oh those terrible, horrible religious and moral people! They are the devil himself!

Let me see.... what is the opposite of being moral? hmmm.......?

If you think that I have said something that indicates that I hate people based on their actions, you have a very vivid imagination. You are living in a dreamworld. I hate immoral actions, but I don't hate the people performing them. I wish them all the best in their efforts to find their way to a clean life. You are living in a dream world OR, you think that you have clairvoyant powers that in reality, you do not posess.
