Tough to find a more pragmatic group of folks than insurance underwriters. Apparently, someone determined that the likelihood of teachers accidently or intentionally plugging their students was high enough to make providing insurance coverage a losing bet.

And how would they know that? The only way to have a meaningfull statistical foundation is to run the numbers. So, how many students have been shot by their teachers in the last decade or so wether accidentally or on purpose?

Without that knowledge their policy is bogus.

Correct. What of it? Or are actuaries supposed to just dispense feel good vibes rather than provide assessments based on actual data?

Actuaries are supposed to come up with decisions that keep risk away from the criminal enterprise of insurance

actual data.....
new things require new insurance
first jet... first skyscraper.... first school with armed teachers....
These guys assess risk for fun and profit.
Your calling BS means absolutely nothing.

Feel good vibes.... that's probably the absolute furthest thing from an actuary's mind....

Glad that absurd ideas like this are being nipped in the bud -- the risk of dying in a school shooting is likely an order of magnitude less than the risk of breaking one's neck during gym class or dying because your school bus gets run over by an errant 18-wheeler. They're schools. Not prisons with armed guards.

Nope. Free Market. Those companies are in no way obliged to insure risks they are uncomfortable with.

Yes, all schools should now have swat teams, just in case.

emc better change their tune or they could be losing lots of business.BUT i will say that their idea of having licensed police officers is a better idea then giving guns to who knows?in my old home town about 30 miles from me they do have a city cop that roams the halls during the day.

Cops in schools are a waste of money as well. At some point, you just need to realize that the risk of school shootings is TINY and that preventing them should be #534345234 on any given town's agenda.

How about sending your kids to educational facilities that fit your own set of principles and quit forcing everyone else to subsidize your beliefs, at gunpoint?
"I don't want guns at schools. But I want them used on you if you fail to pay for these schools!"
