Have ya'll ever seen one of these? Stout Scarab

Man that looks like one sweet ride. Interesting how he laid the engine/drive system out.

Thats a concept car--very similar concept, the stout was shaped the same- not as long.

Very cool! The second picture is Bucky Fullers diamaxian right? Fatally flawed chassis steering design. Back wheel steering. INheritantly unstable. Bucky should have known better.

I've seen one or two before. Last time I saw one it was at the Meadowbrook concours near Detroit.

I don't think I've ever seen a stout in person but have seen pictures numerous times. The interior IIRC is finished in plywood like an old travel trailer.

Thanks for posting Jim, I enjoyed it. I remember seeing the picture in the past, but knew nothing about it.

Great story.

I love those cars, but last I knew, they were trading in six figures... very unfortunate, because I'd love to own one.

Stout Scarab - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

We have had other threads or at least one that mentioned this.

I saw the one at Owl's Head Transportation Museum in Maine last time I was there, five or so years ago.

Interstate Batteries once backed a tour across the US that consisted of antique cars. The big draw was that you had to drive it; no trailers allowed.

And one of these made the trip one year. This was almost 20 years ago.

The tour stopped overnight in Dallas 'West End' and you could just walk right up to them and look through the windows. Everyone that saw this car was saying the same thing... "The original Mini-Van!"
