That is pretty good advice, I think

Might be driving, and alcohol+keys don't mix. (Well, unless I can talk some of my coworkers into splitting a limo.)

I'll be taking the "flavor of the week", so I should be good in that regard.

In the spirit of what JB3 posted, I vote for a polyester double-knit suit, Nike shoes, and at least two bottles of hair gel. Don't forget to douse yourself with the cheapest cologne that Wal-Mart carries.

Sounds like a plan...!

For failure! :P

My advice is look at the big picture. Is this something that will be used a lot over a long time? If so, then get something nicer. If now and then, something mid grade. If a couple times or less, find something inexpensive or free. I got a three piece suite free from the old chirch I went to at their clean-out event. Then took it to the best tailor in the county and family friend (no discount though) and had it custom tailored to me for $35. All the rest of the jackets and suites I got on clearance; don't think I paid more than $50 (that was for jacket and vest I got for interview). But all but one of my suites are cotton as Vater is allergic to wool and prefer corduroy over flat.

What I learned from the tailor is the shoulders and length are the most critical when considering a used suite. If the width is too narrow, it can't be made wider. Same for the sleeve length, but if a smidgen off, might be enough fabric to adjust. However, the more areas to be adjusted, the higher the cost.

B.T.W., supply of 1970's clothing has pretty much dried up. :( I love wearing clothing of that period, but getting hard to find. Also, no since bashing the 1970's as good number of folks still wear the style and appreciate it. :D Also, lot of good stuff can be found second hand.

Hope this helps...

:laugh2: Yep, know about pet hair as my "mother" has cats! I am a red head, so have a brown corduroy sport coat before a red Golden Retriever adopted me. About wore it out, as I too have respect and wear at least slacks and a jacket to Church, plus it is very warm so doesn't work for our summers like Sandy Eggo. So, decided red hair show up less on brown, so got another, and is true. Also found the texture and pattern help. My Jacket and vest are fine "plaid" of grey and black weave which makes it rough so haven't found hair on it. Doubt though it survive cat hair though! That gets EVERYWHERE! That and littler boxes means no dating ladies with cats unless she is REALLY worth it. ;) Then I am toilet training it or teaching how to use the dog door and keeping duct tape handy.

This is fast, complete and easy.

For a New Year's eve party, I needed one quickly. Like in ONE hour's time.

I went to the Men's Department and told them what I needed, and 2 men got right on it.

They founed me a great suit, actually a blazer and slacks, a fine dress shirt, a great necktie, and socks, an integrated complete package.

Then, they called in a store tailor that really knew his stuff, marked off the clothes, and I got dressed in all of it, looked and fitted perfectly, paid for it, and walked out of the store and drove to the party @ the Silver Dollar Saloon in Yuba City.

Due to the urgency, they got me in and out of there in LESS THAN ONE HOUR !!! Think it all cost about $950, somewhere in there. Absolutely worth it, by any measure.

Nordstrom is NOT cheap, but the quality and service is FIRST rate, and your suit or blazer/slacks combination will last you for years and years, and everyone will be suitably impressed. Especially the ladies.

Just go *DO* it.

Damn Jim, looking good!

a waistcoat makes a cheap suit look pretty snazzy also. I have an old blazer and dark pants, totally unrelated to each other, and I made them look like a nice 3 piece suit buying a 50 dollar waistcoat and wearing good shoes. Plus it keeps your tie out of your drink and you can rock a pocket watch 20s style

Oh, for those interested, if I do drive, I'll be taking the $500 BMW 635CSI I picked up this last weekend.

Seems like the perfect outing for such a car. :D I didn't want to take something too flash, but also wanted to take something classy! The 6-series fits the bill perfectly.

Exept not sold in local stores, only online. I found a place where all the ties are $15, but don't remember the name... Had a wonderful selection of bow ties.

I do miss wearing ties, but my collection is back in Sandy Eggo. Though, nothing compared to Vater's! He quit wearing once use children came along then the Church in Sandy Eggo left us... He even has two original Star Wars ties! I wonder if he wear a bow tie? As got a good point.

You're a ballsy individual (or an extremely careful eater :D), bowtie leaves a heck of a lot of food spill real estate down your front. Since every time I have to wear a suit is combined with finger foods or sit down meals, I prefer a darkish patterned tie since its inevitable that some of my food will end up on my shirt.
Usually the more expensive the clothing, the more food it attracts.

I can only think of maybe one time I spelt food. I rather have it go on the shirt as MUCH eaier to to clean, especially if white which is mostly what I wear to fancy occasions. I can't imagine why you would have so much trouble. Sitting in the chair against the back? No napkin?

Oh, and finger food can be eaten on a plate with a fork. ;)

Oh man, its been at least ten times ive had food spilled on me by me, or by neighbors knocking over a glass or here, try this shrimp as I drop it into your soup bowl. Some of us just attract dirt and filth.

Of course I do tend to sit back, and I don't tuck a napkin up high as I usually forget, so its courted filth

[chuckle!] Guess helps being a bachelor introvert, as I skip parties. I am also fistidous about keeping neat when in public, as when working on autos I wind up with grease EVERYWHERE. So, guess point taken, some just attract soiling sometimes and others all the time.
