I agree. I've always had 2 terms in my head but 3 is probably a more reasonable amount of time.

1st term -- learn what's going on
2nd term -- work
3rd term -- accumulate power
4th term to the end ---> disburse favors to friends, punish enemies, get rich

Sure seems to me the M.O.

That's laughable. When it comes to histrionics, Waxman is not even in the same class as Dan Burton, et al.

That has not been my experience. My Congressman has been in office for 33 years, though I have only been in his district for about 18 years. He uses his power, credibility, and influence representing our interests and responding to specific constituents' concerns. I have heard many people from various walks of life comment about their positive experiences dealing with Congressman Wolf's office.

Your description fits some, but not all.

You're claiming Dan Burton as yours? That's bold.

You can do better than that.

Nope, that's about as good as I got. ;) That said, you can do better than to imply that Waxman is comparable to Burton. It's a false equivalence.

I saw an interview with George Foreman about his rope-a-dope fight with Muhammad Ali. At some point during the fight, Foreman landed a good one on Ali. Foreman was accustomed to seeing other fighters stagger or go down when he hit them, but Ali said, "Is that all you got?" Foreman thought to himself, "Yep, that's pretty much it."

That’s silly. If someone wanted to disburse favors, etc., they could start doing that during about the first week. But that kind of goal is why funding is provided by some that helps get some elected and re-elected time after time.

While three terms is arbitrary, it provides enough time in office so that some other than the uber wealthy and uber connected can serve without damaging their original career plans. The good news is that it would stop people from making a career in federal politics.

I wish it were possible to stop people from making a career working for the .gov in general as on the topic of accumulating power and disbursing favors to friends, that’s where the biggest problem originates.

Indistinguishable party hacks. You can choose the side you prefer and ardently defend … whatever.

AFAIK, Waxman never tried to undo any presidential elections through continuous and mostly frivolous investigations.

As though a private company is powerful and a Congressman is not.

And Congressmen are truth-tellers while private companies are not.

Yeah, I guess it is an over-used phrase. Some congresspersons strike me as 40 watt bulbs who somehow figured out how promise enough to people with beds to feather to get the money to snow enough people with ads to get elected. Gary Condit of CA one such individual, and there are many others. Waxman struck me as more sober than most of them, no dummy and no pushover.

40 years. Pffftt.. Ridiculous. If that alone is not a reason for term limits, I don't know what is.

Usually I think of sobriety as a positive behavior.
