Actually if a person can fit in even a small vertical pair of washer and dryer. The economics and saving of time make sense.

I remember when a lot of people got by with little spin washers. They washed the clothes on one side and the second side was the high speed spin. Not a lot of capacity but probablty adequate for one person.

That reminds me that an historical park near us has an antique engine show once a year. They usually have lots of washing machines powers by gasoline engines. Must have been the rage in rural America at one time.

Previous to widespread electrical providers. Maytag made a ton of two cycle motorized washing machines. They had a little kick starter if I remember.

My uncle had a large prosporous farm with no outside supply of electricity. Very high quality windmill generators where available. Those models are still sought today as they were real quality items.

Yes the maytag was two cycle with a kick start. My dad had one that had been sitting around for 20 or 30 years. he gave it to me to figure out. I took it apart and cleaned everything and replaced the little brass screen with some women's hose and got it running again. It was one of those hit and miss engines with a magneto so it fired every time if under load. I was about 11 or 12. First engine I ever worked on.

About the same age I disassembled my bike and put it back together just to see how it worked.

A couple years later I built up a bike from several, painted it and was stylin'. It had alloy rims from a Royce union with the three speed axle and a 52 tooth front sprocket so it had the legs on a ten speed with both in top gear.

Also, since we are discussing laundrymats; my 4plex (I lived in one unit) had it's own coin operated washer and dryer. I loved it. The quarters in a month actually paid the entire house's water bill.

These new generation morons from ME or south asia are 100% idiots - their kids can be spilling coke on your carpets and their parents would say - kids will be kids and not even bother to offer cleaning it up.

happened once, I got their kids doing the cleanup - they left our dinner all angry that I got their kids doing some cleanup.

hmm - are any powered by a small block chevy?
