Since they warranty the parts. Unless there is contractial agreement between you and lazy boy of some form. That only their dealers can change them when free..Just ask for the parts and plead poverty.
I suspect they automatically provide a new mechanical assembly rather than specific parts. Based on it is both cheap to manufacture and if one part is gone other parts may be getting worn.. |
They said that a service guy needed to come out to check the parts to see which ones were needed, and that, plus service, was going to cost $109 plus tax. After a few minutes telling her which parts were needed, she said that a service guy needed to read the tag on the bottom of the chair with the proper codes...I told her that I already had that info ready for her.
In the end, they are sending me the parts, at no charge. |
Awesome! Way to be prepared!

I had heard extended warranties where for suckers. On this one if unused you get your money back to buy their other merchandise was the pitch. So I thought what is there to lose? Providing you spend the money within the ninety day period after it expires. You are also going to have to spend twice the extended warranties amount. Only on items with the last two digits of the price not being of certain values. This excluded large items on sale I expect. Then it got really good as the most expensive part and the reason for buying the extended warranty is subjective for coverage. Normal average failure of that part is specifically indicated as possibly excluded. Anyways after reading the fine print I phoned up and had it cancelled and hopefully the money will reappear in my account. I am happy you are going to get your lazy boy warrantied parts free. The are not even nailing you for shipping. The wife should be helpful in telling you how to install them if there are any difficulties.:D Gotta love the wives sometimes. Even in areas that I may be deemed competent in. I occasionally get suggestions. I take all it in stride. It is part of their specis profiles so it has to be considered. Or you should at least pretend to take it under advisement. If something around the house breaks and you attend to it immediately it also gets mentioned. Just the other night the wife said there is a problem here. That expression when interpreted basically means get your ass up here. So I went up to find the dishwasher was leaking. After laying on the floor flashlight and all it was the front seal. I mentioned it may need a new front seal but the unit is new enough it is a little early for it to fail. Then I noticed some food in one area of the seal and mentioned that was probably the cause. Removed the slight obstruction and know she will keep an eye on it for a few days to double check my diagnosis. Nothing like being told you should rethink the problem if it reoccurs. Yet somehow or other this gives them satisfaction as then there is no doubt in their mind that you know you made an error. The bad part is it occurred in their domain the kitchen mind it was an error of judgement. Then there is the kitchen stove that has a small issue. I mentioned it is a little too cold right now for me to repair the part. It is staying cold and I have to weld it in an unheated shop. So now I do not have to watch for when the weather warms up a little. It will be causually mentioned instead. |

Looks like I'm back at it...with a newer chair.
In the Summer of 2015, we retired that older chair with it's problems for a new one. The old one now resides in a spare bedroom that we use as the library...meaning 5 bookcases loaded with books and a single computer reside in the room, along with my old chair. The new chair, which is incredibly comfortable, was doing me well until a little over a month ago, when the rocker block came loose from the chair side, and the whole chair leaned to the left. I called and told them what happened, along with photos of the broken part, and they ordered a replacement part...took two weeks to get here. The part was the entire left side frame. I was surprised they were unable to reattach without replacing the whole side, since it looked as it it just needed the two 7/16 dowels replaced and the block reglued, but I was told that there are screws from the outside of the frame that come to the rocker block. Ok...no problem. I called back when the part got here to schedule for a repairman to show up. While on the phone to schedule the repairman, they informed me that I would have to wait 3 weeks. Not happy about it, but what could I do. I explained that I was coming up on a surgery date, and needed my chair to recuperate...that didn't seem to motivate them any. Cost to repair is $109 per hour, and I was told that it would take 2 hours to do. I paid the cost after being told that if it takes less time, that I would be reimbursed on the 1/4 hour. My son and I put the chair on 4X4 blocks that were connected by 2X4s and set the chair on it so the frame rested on the wood, and the rocker would not touch the floor. I wasn't able to rock, and the footstool, when extended, caused my chair to become a slide, sure to put me on the floor had I reclined. But, with the use of a huge foam wedge, I could sit in it with my feet up a bit. That would have to do. Two days ago, the guy comes to repair the chair...which was quite the production. In 15 minutes, he had the old chair in pieces and upholstery off the old arm. He pulled out the new arm, and began putting the upholstery on. I noticed that he had the foam inserts in crooked, and told him about it, but was told that he knew what he was doing, so I backed off and observed. He had the arm back on in no time. He spend about 20 minutes putting the back back on, using a BFH, before he realized he was doing it wrong. After employing the BFH to remove the back again, he was able to get it back on. While he was using the BFH, I heard the wood cracking...but, kept my mouth shut because he knew what he was doing. When he had the upholstery back on the arm, I noticed that it was crooked and kept my mouth shut, because he knew what he was doing. Now, when someone that I'm paying tells me that they know what they are doing, I keep my mouth shut. I allow them to screw things up to the point that someone else needs to come in and repair it, at the company's cost. I've been this way since telling a guy I paid to install a dishwasher that he had the bracket in wrong...he got pissed and told me that he knew what he was doing. I later had to have his company send out another person to remove the machine, repair what he screwed up, and reinstall...no longer on my dime. After he left, I took some photos of the work he did. The chair back is loose from a broken corner where he used the BFH to beat it into submission. The upholstery is crooked on the arm, and the foam padding is crooked as well. Heck...I think it was put on backwards from the feel of it. I called La-Z-Boy yesterday to convey my problems, and sent them photos of the work done, along with a video of the loose chair back. They told me that they'd order a new chair back frame and that I should have it in...two weeks. At that point, they'll send yet another guy from the same sub-contract company to repair the chair, and repair the original guy's work. Luckily, the didn't say I'd have to pay. If they did, I'd show up in the truck with the chair, carry it into their showroom on a Saturday morning when they're the busiest, and very LOUDLY announce the quality of the company they use to repair the chairs. I told them I would do this, which is why, I think, I have a brand new loaner chair to use coming to me today to use while waiting for the old one to repaired properly. It was a two week wait for the original part, 3 week wait for the labor...5 weeks total. I'm looking at a 2 week wait on the replacement back, and will likely have a 3 week wait, according to what I was told on the phone, before someone would be out to repair the chair, and fix the previous repair...another 5 weeks. That's 10 week's worth of time I won't be able to use the chair properly...a chair I paid $1200 for. I'm more than a bit pissed about this, as you can imagine. Luckily, they're sending out the same exact model chair as the one I currently have, in the same fabric...not sure of the color, but it will at least feel like it should. |
