I don't drink much Scots whisky, preferring American and especially ryes and single barrel bourbons. However, I have a pal who is in some sort of big bucks national scotch club. They have big meetings every couple of months around the country where they all take a bottle of some rare find and sit around sipping it and feeling really special about themselves. Or something. Anyhow, he gave me a wee dram or two of Lagavulin 12 once after I taught him to shoot his new .44. It's an Islay malt whisky. Islay whiskies use malts that are dried over peat fires 100% of the time, where Speyside whiskies are often only partially smoked; milder and sort of middle of the road, like Glenlivet and MacAllan. That Lagavulin was like drinking a campfire. Very interesting but an acquired taste for sure. The MacAllan you tried was hardly representative of all Scotches. Whoever bought it might have been impressed with the price. Try some others. Saying you tried MacAllan and decided you don't like scotch is like saying you tried Jose Cuervo and decided you don't like tequila. |

Laugh if you will my New Year's resolution was to start collecting a bottle of Scotch per month. Hasn't happened yet though. I might start next year, or heck, why not now? :) |

Glenfarclas Glenfarclas 10 is my current go to right now, its cheap for a Scotch at $34 a bottle, but you can kick it up to the 18 which is about $90 a bottle and its even better. Macallan is like the Bud Light of Scotch its just meh, I have even had the 30 year and it wasn't any better. https://www.thedalmore.com/ Dalmore is great as well. Jura Whisky Jura Scotch is like wine their are endless varieties. It can also be just as expensive! |

Thinking about trying it again tonight, but a bit differently. Tried it on the rocks previously, and tonight I'm going to try it neat. Then perhaps a sprinkle of water. Any other suggestions? |

One of the highlights of the Fall Meet at Hershey for me is one of the guys in my camper brings 3 really nice steaks( one for each of us), and 3 or 4 bottles of single malt. After eating the steaks, accompanied by a nice Cabernet, we finish on the scotch. He brings them out in his prescribed order, and waxes eloquent about the smokiness of this one, or the faint seaweed in the other one. All I know is I really like the stuff. We have a mandatory walk around the train crossing and graveyard before retiring. We all sleep rather well. Oh, and all cell phones are turned off, and no calls home to wives allowed--( I did that once; it will not be repeated) All in all and very pleasant evening after a day of walking the flea market and car corral. |

This afternoon I went by my favorite Machinist's shop for Homer's happy hour. I had a good beer the name of which escapes me and a rather mild tasting shot of Moonshine. It tasted like nothing but kicked like a mule!;) I am nearly back to normal now after eating supper and having a wee nap. |

Never been a huge fan of scotch, I'll stick to wine. |
