I''ll check the door switch. Lint filter is inside the door. It's a front control model.

Maybe, if the timer will still shut it off. Except that in your second post, you did say "Now it just quit operating altogether".

It did. But now it has started operating again with the same initial problem.

I'd want to check for dirt/lint buildup around/inside the motor. Lint is not a safe way to complete a circuit. If your motor is like the one on my GE and many similar appliance motors, it will have large openings that may allow you to inspect and clean or vacuum.

Door switch is operational. Open with door open, closed with door closed.

So are you saying the dryer turned on even with the door open? I'm trying to fully understand your op.

That dryer is made by whirlpool.

Yes, dryer operates if the timer is in the run position with the door open and closed. It doesn't need the start button to begin either. Just turn the timer to run and it starts. So door switch and start switch have no effect on its operation. It will only stop when the timer goes to off.

I'd run your model number on some appliance forums........most are moderated by people in the trade.

I've posted it on an appliance repair forum. No answers yet.

My diagnosis is based on how my GE dryer is setup. If the door switch and restart switch check out OK, the only other switch I can see causing this condition would be the centrifugal switch in the motor. Most appliances have a wiring-diagram somewhere inside. Yours may be stuck on the back cover or folded up in a baggy inside the control-panel.

seeing as how everyone at one time or another built sears dryers and sears stuck kenmore on them it's hard to say but.

when it runs when the timer is turned to a cycle, does it heat or just tumble?

more than likely it is the push start switch.

I think you're right. I found the wiring diagram in an envelope near the motor. Motor is not very dirty so it's not lint. Looking at the diagram, the only thing that makes sense is that the centrifugal switch is stuck closed. Can't really tell from the diagram where that switch is and whether it is replaceable. I'm thinking the motor would probably need to be replaced. Not sure it's worth doing that.

Either you have a bad door switch, and a bad push to start switch, or your contacts have welded shut.

Ill gamble and say motor given the erratic behavior.

I unplugged the door switch and the start switch. It still runs when the timer is moved from off to a cycle. I can hear a click in the motor when it starts up and when it stops. I assume this is the movement of the centrifugal switch. Now I'm even more confused. Why is it operating with both switches out of the circuit and what is the click if it's not the centrifugal switch?
