What was the best year of your life? Worst? Why?

Question is in the title. My life is not as interesting here as many, but I'll answer as an example.

Best: 2013. First child born, Business took off, purchased a new house with a fabulous garage, 1966 Imperial crown purchased. A few very nice trips to Colorado, SoCal, and South Florida... and one fantastic party: Opening of the New Mercedes-Benz store in Wichita. Six figures dropped for this red carpet event. Really a red carpet valet when you pulled up. Actors/models flown in from New York pretending to be Paparazzi with cameras as you walked up the carpet. Open bar and finger food carried by waiters on silver platters. Dance floor with a live band in the service drive and a runway fashion show/technology showcase in the service bay. My 500SL got front row treatment with all the classic/exotic benzes. A night I will never forget.

Worst: 2008. Most of my good friends had the good sense to get out of Wichita while the gettin' was good. I nearly failed/dropped out of college because the foreign language requirement of my major was ruining me. Miserable relationship after a multi-year dry spell making me never want to bother with romance again. A whole lot of effort put forth for a good friend running for office who got clobbered on election day. This turned around for new years when I took Ol' Turbo (1985 300D) on a cross country voyage to California.

That's hard to beat right there. ^^^

Too many good ones to single out a bad one.

Revolving around cars, 1976 was memorable when shopping for and finally buying a new Corvette.

Volumes could be written about other various high or low points in life.

It's really hard to say because the measures can be so different. For instance, I might choose a year in which I paddled a high number of my most favorite rivers. The immediate enjoyment was very high. Or, I might choose the year in which I decided not to finance a house purchase with a mortgage but to purchase a very run down old house for cash and fix it up as I had money. The effects of that choice rippled out thru the next 30 years of my life in many good ways. Or, I might choose the year I decided to move West for graduate school. That geographical change had lots of unforeseen good consequences. I don't know.

Never forget, a crisis can be an excellent opportunity and a valuable life skill learning experience.

We can tell. Especially english class, right? Your writing has improved tremendously over the years that you have been posting here. You might like school if you ever decide to try it again.

I had a great year when I was 12. I was pitching a no-hitter when the coach pulled me out to "let the other team play too." Second thought maybe that was a bad year.

The worst years of my life were the ones I spent at University. What-----a-----waste. I only had a year or so to go before I figured out I was never going to use any of the stuff I was learning, so I went ahead and finished by throwing more good effort and money after the bad.

The best moment of my life was when a guy said he thought I really understood how to get to the heart of a story and asked me to rewrite a script he had sunk a ton of money into. Five hours of work; $25,000!

He went on to make a ton of money and I had a new career.

Sometimes it really pays to hang out with the wrong sort of people.

Worst year was junior year of college. Was working 35 hours a week plus full time student. I had panic attacks every so often but they manifested themselves oddly so I had all sorts of medical tests done. They put me on a few scrips which really messed with my head and how I treated relationships and the people around me. Thankfully I realized it, quit the scrips (terrible withdrawal too) and life slowly returned to normal but not without some scars. Puts everything into perspective though.

Best is probably every year since, each one outdoes the last. Surrounded by great people, get to drive a fast car and do fun things like autox, things shaping up professionally. Got laid off in January but they attempted to rehire me. I turned that down and now Im doing consulting for them and landed a great job quickly, all in making nearly twice what I was when I was at the layoff job, nothing like rubbing salt in that wound. Life is great!!

At 65, I am hoping that my best year is still ahead of me ( despite some diminution of physical skills).
Worst? Can't say, there were several difficult ones, but picking a worst is difficult.

( Further hampered by my Christian beliefs that All that happens to me is the plan of the Creator, and designed for my ultimate good. To call any particular year "bad" would be a lack of faith that even that was still a good.)

Ten years ago I contracted MRSA and nearly died. I spent 13 days in the hospital and don't remember three of them at all. My youngest two were both less than 24 months old. I didn't die but did not recover- I did go back to work within a month but something else was wrong. The doctors never told me why I was in the hospital in the first place- I didn't even know I had MRSA for the three months after I got out.

I then checked myself back into the hospital with upset stomach- but my heart rate while resting was over 100; and it had been for more than a week. No doctors caught what was wrong with me. On Fathers day 2004 after some tests a heart doctor came and told me I had Lymphoma and needed a heart replacement. I was silent for about 30 seconds and asked if the lymphoma was cancerous to which he responded "all lymphoma is cancerous". I asked to be alone. It's fathers day, I have cancer and need a heart replacement. I couldn't bring myself to call and tell my wife or parents. Two hours after news I called my boss and told him while doing my best to keep a brave face. My best was not so good. He told me to get out of that hospital and go to a Cleveland Clinic FL and get a second opinion. I called my Dad and couldn't speak. I called back later and was able to speak to my mother and she said the same thing- get out of that hospital and go to Cleveland Clinic in Weston, FL. About 4 hours later anther Cardiologist came in and had some news for me; my lymph system next to my heart was extremely enlarged- but I did not have lymphoma. My heart valves were damaged- but I did not need a new heart. I needed heart valve surgery. I did transfer to CC in Weston and it was like going from a Kia dealer to a Lexus dealer; night and day. I got the open heart surgery and they could not repair my Mitral valve so I have a carbon fiber heart valve. The second doctor has been my cardiologist since that day and we are fast friends. Still I spent about 10K on medical bills that year and lost a huge portion of income- and I was making less than $40K a year to begin with. I had the chance to make alot more in the previous years being a boat captain but I choose a steady job which provided health insurance and other bene's but not so much money. June 29th this year is the ten year anniversary of my open heart surgery. I'm relatively healthy now.

The best year? Not nearly as clear cut as the worst.

Glad to hear that worked out. It suggests that a healthy dose of skepticism regarding medical diagnosis is a good thing.
