The Hipsterization of Car Culture
For some time now I have been bothered by this recent phenomenon, mostly oriented towards a very specific set of cars —older Alfa Romeos, BMW 2002's, Jeep Wagoneers...— worshiped and fetishized in a holier-than-thou fashion. Petrolicious is an example of this. First they start "rediscovering" the cars (in plain English, pretending cars that are new to them have been long-lost jewels until their Midas-esque touch), create tons of sleek media (video, graphic design, Instagram...), and finally creating a crowd of Silicon Valley-style snobs (drones) who will dismiss any divergent opinions as "uninformed" or "not being enough of a purist".
Never saw this in the prewar or Brougham crowd. Very much feels like an uppity barman telling you about their single-source Colombian roast Arabiga bean latte, but with cars. Makes me SICK IN THE STOMACH! OK, rant over.

Well the tight pants will make it easier for your target identification when kneeing them in the balls for their presumption.

Media outlets have a duty to sell papers - I can see how Petrolicuous thinks they found a niche and want to exploit it. I hang out at Jalopnik a lot and they aren't the best example of open-mindedness sometimes themselves...
I kinda see it like motorcycles - there are a few brands of bike that I don't like (styling, engines, stereotypes) but the fact is, the more motorcycles are on the road, the better life is for all motorcyclists (more visibility, more protection vs. legislation, more tires and common parts, better safety gear, more potential comraderie...) The more "car people" we have - the better. Maybe they are just Stangbangers who go to cars & coffee once a week to try their hand at hitting bystanders on their way out, but they'll grow up, and when they do, they'll be cool people to hang with, they'll understand. I'm rolling to a "car collection" tomorrow - looking forward to it -John
