2001 SL500 Sport Package. The original AMG staggered wheels are included. 67,000 miles. Soft top Inop. $5000.00. No brainer.

The thinker right now is the 2001 CLK 55 AMG. 103,000 miles for $5500.

That SL will look great once the factory rims are reinstalled. Did it come with the hardtop?

Well I was just looking at a CTSV with 640hp so I guess its all relative...:D

Awesome deal Tyler! If you could PM which dealer wholesale website? The one wholesale website I peruse doesn't turn up deals of that nature. My friend recently sold his 2000 SL500 with I believe 58,000 miles both tops, staggered AMG wheels for $13,500. The only issue was the window in the soft top had a little tear near the top material.

TylerH860 12-01-2015 09:24 PM

OVE is the site

Even though they made 3000 clk 55 from 2001-2002 you hardly ever find any for sale. The 2003-2004 production numbers are half that but there's plenty available.

I personally like the looks very much over the 210 e55.

The SL looks good once those horrible wheels are thrown in the dumpster. The R129 is really a good car, I can't believe they have depreciated so much.

I was thinking the same thing. 5 grand for either of those cars? It boggles the mind. It just doesnt pay to buy a new car when you can have a 60k car for a fraction if you wait a few years.

Of course, I say this as a make a payment on the mrs's new car

Did you access OVE via Mannheim? I was at Mannheim two weeks ago, I swear the car business is like an addiction, one second you swear you'll never buy another car again to sell, next thing you know you relapse lol

Well its all what you are looking for, in the R129's case its not terrible to fix and I can't see them depreciating to much more.

IDK if I would have more fun with a 15 year old R129 or a new SL550 @$1300 a month lease.

The R129 will certainly be cheaper!

Sort of, except that CTS-V is 16 model years newer than the CLK55.

Compared to a 2001 Cadillac Catera Sport the hottest thing Cadillac had on offer at the time, the CLK55 is an absolute monster, all things "relative."

My dad had an '03 CLK430 Cab for a while that he bought new, I really enjoyed driving it, but I also didn't have to pay for it  The W208 isn't Mercedes finest moment, but neither was the 210, I'd agree its prettier than the W210 though Tyler.

Definitely going to disagree on the 210. I've had one for around 15 years and it has never let me down. The only real issue was the crank position sensor gave out around year 10. No rust issues or any mechanical issues to report. Rust was an issue on spring perches in the rust belt states but not in areas they don't salt the road. It's probably the most dependable Mercedes ever built. I know it's the most dependable one I've ever owned and that's why I've kept it. The 210 E is the car I drive when the CL and now SL is in the shop.

Hatterasguy 12-02-2015 03:32 PM

My buddies W210 is just about 18 years old and is still chugging along. The rust will kill it before anything mechanical does.

I always thought all the basic E classes were about as reliable as you could get in a Mercedes. I know a number of people with W211's nearing the decade mark that are still chugging along with no issues.

You've disagreed with me on points I didn't make.

As some who paid for and owned a W210 E55, rest assured, we agree they are great cars.

I am actually advising lots of people to get into W210s, given that like $3,000 will buy some of the nicest non-AMG 210s out there it is an incredible amount of car for the money that drives really well and returns decent fuel economy too.

super SEC 12-02-2015 06:48 PM

Your comment on the 210 not being the finest moment was what I disagreed on. I feel it was a highlight given their dependability.
