Anybody know anything about washing machines

Hey Y'all,

Such a knowledgeable group I would think that someone could kinda help get me started on trying to figure out how to get this washing machine fixed. DIY style.

It's a whirlpool gold from maybe like 10-15 years ago. It's been great. Only broke one other time. It had stopped spinning. Called a guy to fix it. Took home like twenty minutes. Cost me like $120 bucks. Guy said that it was the last of the easily repairable machines. Great! But I'm not really wanting to go down that road again.

This time it's not working quite right again. It goes through all the cycle fine. But the agitation is weak. The center spiral thingy is not really moving. Kinda tries to turn but no so much.

I'm totally inexperienced with the inner workings. Starting to look online and whatnot for some info. Hoping that I can get a part or whatever and get this thing washing again.

Anybody got any words of wisdom for me?

Thanks.

I type machine brand and model number in browser, and always find a answer. They make everything cheap and out of plastic, could be gears stripped.Or you need to buy a new center thing. Some are made to come out for was delicate items. If you don't need that feature dry it good and super glue gel it on.

Can't be too difficult. Does it spin correctly? It could be a drive belt. If not that, a bad motor or pulley can usually be sourced reasonably. There are folks who part these out on ebay, although used parts are a risk.

You probably have a "direct drive" whirlpool washer.

fill the washer with water until it starts to agitate. You will likely notice that the lower part of the agitator works really well, and the top is not moving. If this is the case, you need agitator dogs, Part # 80040. Remove the fabric softener, then a plastic disc cover. That will reveal a 7/16ths bolt. Remove the entire agitator and disassemble, easy peasy.

That servicer certainly did not overcharge you at $120, it was likely a lidswitch.

Do washers still have wig-wags?

I am going to have to take apart a dryer to put in a propane jet. I am hoping I can muddle through it during coffee time one morning.

I went in a pawn shop and was surprised at how many washers and dryers they had. I bought an old transit for $10. I think I can shoot a level with it.

The last washer with a wig-wag rolled off the assembly line in 1984.
