In the thread in P&R folks clearly do not understand how the rules/warning/infraction system works. Some suggested that since PC and DM are on the "left" then some on the "right" should be banned as well. As a former moderator you know that's not how it works. PC himself suggested that the fault of his ban was someone else- not the content of his own posts.
After so many infractions a ban is (or was) implemented until the infraction count is below the ban limit. Infractions last 6 month long IIRC.

Wait a minute! Tom might have a point! Are you trying to bait people with this thread?

I’m trying to stay on subject of rules. You on the other hand have no desire to stay on subject; i have no intention of “baiting”. What is the written rule and the general understanding of “baiting”? That’s a question for everyone, not just PC.

Well Tom thinks that you might be trying to bait people by feigning ignorance about forum rules, and Tom is a pretty smart guy.

Meanwhile let’s get back on track about the topic of this thread...what are the rules of this forum...of which you appear to have posted links...so...why are you asking folks what the rules of the forum are, when you apparently have found them and listed them in your opening post? I don’t understand...

Are you trying to teach us the rules? What are your qualifications? I mean, you do have four infractions, so maybe you’re not the ideal candidate to do so...

But hey, I could be wrong! So, why don’t you post one rule at a time, starting with the rules you have apparently recently broken, and explain how you broke that rule? You know what? That might be really instructive!

tbomachines 11-19-2018 09:46 AM

I'm not sure I've seen anyone questioning the rules or being unclear on them... They seem pretty straightforward to me.

Allowing these conversations has no benefit to their business, and that’s the best outcome. At worst, a stranger might wander in and be offended. As it is, the vilest contributors to the r&p board are not contributors to any of the more relelevant discussions on the tech boards. Many don’t own cars that pp supplies, I suspect that some could afford a car of any sort. As the recent influx of BMW refugees demonstrates, it’s no trick to attract political discussions. Is pp a political echo room or a parts dealer? How much of that cr p do they agree with, and do they profit in some way? The board has to make business sense.

I always ass-u-me-d that more posters meant more eyeballs to sell to advertisers. Not sure how that stacks up against part sales. I don't buy all my parts here but I do a fair amount, only seems fair to be loyal to some degree.

We are having a bd party for my grandson today and his uncle who I barely know from the other side showed up with a pistol on his belt.

Wow. People can be nutty around guns.

Open carry seems whack to me. Two thugs with knives could steal such a person's gun w/o too much trouble.

We were carpet bombed with infractions all with in a few hrs. No warning. More than 3 infractions is an automatic ban. Neither of us had an opportunity to correct our behavior or contest it.

Someone decided to go after PC and me and tried to get us punted.

Wow. When you put it like that, the action sounds pretty sleazy.

It takes more than four- not three- to get a ban, and I don't think members usually get a "opportunity to correct our behavior" for posts that are given an infraction so TBOmachines is at least partially correct in that some folks that are unclear on the rules. I was also issued infractions at the same time. CMAC appears to have infractions as well, and so did a few others. Some members in the "PC banned?" thread wondered aloud about why and how someone is banned. That is the reason for this thread: people can talk about the rules. Do I think I know everything about the rules here? No. Do I know them generally? Yes. TW posting I am "feigning ignorance of the rules"; is a flat out assumption and it's wrong. Nowhere did I say I didn't know the rules. As far as feigning ignorance, what is harder to believe IMHO is that TW- as one of our longest members and a former moderator- thinking he started a new thread by posting in this thread. I asked him in a PM politely and he said that was the case. So I guess he did think he started a new thread; that can be chalked up to confusion about the how the forum operates - which does show there is "unclear" views ala TBOmachines post.
PC believes I tried to get him banned, and you believe that someone tried to get you "punted". I have never tried to get anyone banned.

It's good to talk about rules we all operate under- because what is clear is that there is some misunderstanding.

Sounds like a personal attack to me. Would you like to rethink this posting?

Its just my opinion. I could be the only one who thinks this.

Does the second post fit the criteria? I think most anyone would consider it a personal insult. I don’t punch people so....

I must respectfully disagree with Tom; I don’t think that it makes you look worse. Please continue to freely express your thoughts. We are in America, after all...
