Subaru Triveca vs Nissan Pathfinders vs Kia Sorento

Looking at purchasing a new ride. I'm pressed with the Kia Sorrento, but also looking at the Nissan Pathfinder and the Subaru Tribeca. Your input is appreciated!

The Tribeca I'm looking at is a 2014 with just ove 80,000 miles. The Nissan Pathfinder is a 2015 with under 20,000 miles. The Kia Sorento is a 2014 AWD with the EX trim level with around 50,000 miles.

holy crap i didnt even realize subaru was making the tribeca after the ugly first gen. I guess its anonymous enough...cant really comment in detail then. A family member had the 2.5 with CVT in a 2016 outback. Good engine, crappy transmission. I couldnt stand driving it. Not that it wasnt durable enough, but just annoying to live with imho.

Just read on wikipedia that 2014 was the last year for the Subaru Tribeca. Under the Magnusan-Moss Warranty Act, Subaru only has to supply parts for ten years which means the car has only about 5 years more useful life.......

Based on this information, I won't be considering the Subaru. The Nissan Pathfinder and Kia Sorento are still in the race....

I would advise to stay away from any thing with a CVT transmission in it.

Are CVT transmissions a problem?

Doesn’t the 2015 Pathfinder also have a CVT?

Yes, the Murano, Pathfinder and Rogue all have CVT. Here's the rundown:

I have zero experience but would question the quality of a ten year old KIA. Are there good comments about the quality overall; I have not heard good things.

Unless the previous owner has done some towing or you plan to...not necessarily in the case of the subarus, they are just annoying. Cannot speak for the others.

They are on par with the others overall.

Not sure on the Pathfinder, but the weak point in Nissans seems to be the CVT. I'd probably feel more comfortable with the Kia from a reliability standpoint but I can't speak on these specific models.

I've seen one fail on a Nissan at 200k and you don't purchase parts for it you purchase a new CVT transmission which, by that time, is worth more than the vehicle.

I don't know about life expectancy of the CVT but had one in a Honda insight and thought the driving experience was perfectly fine.
