My bmw was immensely better with a DCT and my GTI would have much been better with a DSG (both dual clutch automated boxes). My saturn and my van are better with manuals. My volvo would suck with a manual. Drive what you enjoy.

What for?? With Rev Match there's no guesswork involved, and no excessive suspension and clutch wear. Rev Match is the greatest thing since synchro and 4-wheel disc/ABS brakes. If your car does not have it, I would understand the foreign nature of using it. Since downshifting does unnecessary wear on the car I rarely ever use it. BTW, Rev Match works up shifting as well. And if you're not in the know, the C7 M7 RevMatch is optional to engage. Just as TC is. FWIW, the C7 does overpower TC, even when engaged. Ask me how I know....

[emoji1751] you are still completely missing the point of the people that don't want manumatics. Maybe YOU are guessing when you rev match a downshift. All the nannies in your car, abs, traction control, auto clutch rev match, bla bla bla. It's all because people are terrible drivers but still want a fast car. So the actual drivers among us suffer or bought the manual trans car. That has now been taken away, you are a driver assist to the car at this point. It's like being a guy with a hot wife, he says " my wife is super hot but I suck in bed so I hired a guy to bang her for me. I just sit there and kinda tell him want I'd like to do if I could."

You get about a C- in trolling

t walgamuth 03-01-2020 06:34 PM

hah hah!

This guy trolled me in a PM. Asked me a question about an engine swap which was outside my experience then railed at me when I did not know the answer.

True.

Not sure what your point was. You're clearly missing mine. If you like old tech don't upgrade. Pretty simple.... I take it you don't own a C7 M7 then?

The reason is that I want to DRIVE MY CAR MYSELF, this generation has just proclaimed " I'm not good at this and I don't want to learn so I'll have a computer do it for me. " And it's worn off on everything and everyone. That crap is great for most people because they suck at driving, BUT it also just continues to make people worse drivers. I watched a guy key fob his Tesla out of a parking space the other day. Someone mentioned that they were faster around a track with a pdk than a manual but still preferred a manual. Unless you are someone like that I'll bet my feet are better abs and traction control than your computer on a race track. That **** keeping you from running into people on the street and improving lap times are very different. The cleetus McFarland YouTube channel just did a review on the c8 and the traction control was cutting in alot until he cut it off. If you want to keep up with the Joneses at cars and coffee you can have your computers. I'll still take 3 pedals all day long. Good luck pop starting your car when your overused start-stop feature kills a starter in 10 years. Or figuring out what is wrong when it won't go into gear, hell I can drive my car with no clutch pedal in an emergency.

I seriously doubt that. There is no human way for you to pulse your brakes at the rate the ABS computer does. There is no way for you to detect wheel slip or lock up as quickly as a computer does.

I loved my 190e. Miss it every day. My newer C250 does everything my 190e so much better. It is more reliable, it is safer by country mile with the air bags, traction control, ABS, stronger passenger compartment ... etc.

My guess is that 99.9% of cars are used for transportation. They are not used for racing. So the issue of traction control kicking in to save you from over steer/under steer is not an issue. Reducing 0-60 by 1/10th is not an issue.

When people are looking for a vehicle they are usually looking for comfort and safety. The new systems available on cars make them more comfortable and safer. My A/C system keeps the car at a comfortable temp regardless. I have had it 4 yrs now and I never have to mess with it other than when Ms Mash gets in and thinks it is too cold/hot.

Are the new cars as reliable .. nope. They are far more complex. Unfortunately, we live in a disposable age. Not sure how long our cars will last. We do not drive all that much. The C250 has less than 50k on it and the GLK just turned 61k I think. I figure they are good for another 10 yrs or so. Then we will move on.

Car manufactures are not making cars for us. They are making them for the other 99.9% of the people. If you want your old cars with no computers and four on the floor then knock your self out. Keep your older vehicles and keep them maintained. Just for god sakes, stop b1tching about manufactures not making cars for "you". That is not their job. They will not stay in business that way. You are not that freaking special. So get on the bus or shut up and get out of the way.

Manuals are yesterdays news. ABS/traction control/lane departure/self parking/GPS/bluetooth and other tech is the current tech and here to stay. Whine all you want. No one cares.

I feel the same way about electric starters. I can hand-crank a 6-liter, 10 to 1 compression ratio engine more adroitly and with more sensitivity than some soulless 12v motor...

...and don’t get me started on power-assisted steering...

I don't know wtf you are all talking about "trolling". I'm dead serious. I can not lock up my brakes better than a computer. I can detect wheels locking up before it happens actually. Have ears? I'm obviously a far more competent driver than any of you who dissagrees. I don't pump them like a retard. If I lock wheel it's one quick release them reapply. I'm glad l this crap exists so people's grandparents and really the majority of the general public don't go sliding off the road at every intersection. A Corvette is a sports car, an enthusiast' car, or was at one point. Someone mentioned they buy manual Ferraris because they are more valuable. Go buy real estate dude. It's a car to BE DRIVEN. Not a statement, not a symbol not a piece of jewelry to help get your old ugly ass laid. A sports car with no Nanny's and a manual transmission is the most pure driving experience. If you can't handle that third pedal correctly or the confusing stick that goes 5 or 6 different scary places that's fine, there's an automatic girls versions of the car for you. To eliminate the manual option is lame. It's all for bean counters an wussy incompetent rich(ish) boys that can't do it right. The manual option should be there for every real performance car except maybe a drag car. But that's more fun with a stick too...

T walgamuth, did you not write this? It sure looks like you are the troll here. You clearly said you had the info I needed, asked me to be more clear in my plan which I then laid out for everyone who was involved in MY build thread then decided to not answer at all for days. I messaged you to not be a dick on my thread. Looks like you are the dick Gramps. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8e93ba2782.jpg

The idea that you think you can detect wheel lock up better than a computer that has a sensor attached directly to the wheel which is analyzing that wheel countless times a second, that can pump the brake multiple times a second, is laughable and arrogant. If you want to drive a car with out ABS go right ahead. It is statically proven that under the same circumstances, the car with ABS will stop shorter, straighter and sooner than you can in a car with out.

Science does not lie.

F1 drivers no longer use a manual trans. They use paddle shifters. Are you a better driver than them as well?

Manuals are disappearing because they are no longer popular. They are disappearing from sports cars because they are no longer popular. According to the latest stats I have read, the computer can shift the car almost twice as fast as you can with nearly no power loss. While your manual may be more fun to drive (I liked rowing through the gears as well) people who race like to win, not have fun, sooooo there is that.

A Corvette is not a race car. It's a street car. 10ths of a second are a completely moot point. I'm not gonna argue over abs. Go mash your abs pedal going into a fast decreasing radius corner and see who gets through it better. You on abs or me trail braking properly. F1 uses paddle shifters because races are won by milliseconds. The cars are so even it's all up to mistakes by the drivers or crew. Paddles reduce mistakes. F1 drivers in the 60s 70s 80s were far better drivers. Come out and take some laps in in my drift car and see what I'm talking about. I know exactly what the wheels are doing in a car when I'm driving it. I can feel it in my ass. Watch the f1 movie about Nikki Lauda and James hunt(can't think of the name right now) he says exactly the same thing. I don't care what you think about old tech or what's popular or any of that. The some fact is that all that $hit is taking away from the driving experience. It's ok if you want or need help driving your car. I don't. Never had a traffic accident because of my driving, never wrecked a car because I didn't have abs or traction control, on or off a racetrack. Never enjoyed a car as much with an auto, but my Subaru OBS in the snow was pretty damn fun. 5 speed would have been better though.
