Autotrader.com records your conversation with dealer.

A dealer just shared with me that autotrader.com sets up a special toll-free phone number that THEY control. When a prospect dials the toll-free phone number, the call is transferred to either the dealer's cell phone or hard line.

Autotrader.com then both records your conversation with the dealer and makes a physical count of the number of calls to the dealer. Their reason? To quash complaints from the dealer over lack of responses to their autotrader.com listings.

The modern equivalent of little monitored (bugged) offices the car dealerships used to have, or probably still have.

Standard practice for any large company.

Ever hear that "This call may be monitored or recorded for quality assurance purposes" disclaimer when you call a big company? Ever wondered what it was for? You have the right to hang up if you don't want your call recorded.

news flash: please dial one of the toll-free numbers listed for a specific dealer on autotrader.com. Notice that your call is routed directly to the dealer, no "this call is being recorded for call quality purposes".

IMHO, they may be violating various state laws concerning wiretapping. But, that's just me and what the h*ll do I know?

Do you find this more disturbing than the microphone hidden in Nest smoke detectors? The live promiscuous recordings made by the Alexa team? Ring keeping photos of everyone who calls on you at home? Than any number of spyware aps tracking your cell phone? Than the enormous number of trackers planted by every site you visit?

Your track record here speaks volumes regarding this issue.

I am thankful you mentioned all this. I refuse to have any of the aforementioned spy products in or on my place. This is all reminiscent of the old days when the FBI broke into a target's house and planted bugs in each and every room.

Only with the amazon products, the sheeple voluntarily purchase and install the listening devices.

morons.

You should probably stay away from Pelican Parts, it plants a google analytics cookie on you every time you visit.

merc lover 02-20-2020 02:02 PM

cookies are one thing, amazon voyeurs watching your wife undress is another.

Mxfrank 02-20-2020 02:09 PM

Really? Worse than google following you around the web? You need to be careful.
