Pomegranates!
It makes the approach of fall almost welcome. We really only have about three months of outstanding pomegranate season, although you can stash them in the fridge through January.
One of the best fruits IMHO. I’ve read that even though they seem pretty sweet they don’t spike your blood sugar. This shot taken at the legendary Berkeley Bowl Grocery. ![]()

I love me some pomegranates! One of my favorites as well -- combo of sweet and tart, with antioxidents to boot. We keep frozen pom seeds in our freezer year round to add to tea, water, etc.

I only got into them in a big way a couple of years ago. A client has a tree in his backyard and gave me a bag of it runty pomegranates. Then I found a video on how to quickly remove all of the arils/seeds and started buying the big ones. In December I put about 20 big ones in my fridge. I stretched them out till the end of January. Only one went bad. I’ll have to try freezing the seeds, haven’t done that yet.
