Crabby Old Women

it's Sunday and one of my 15 year old Foster boys got up and cleaned their bathroom, then he looked in the refri and the other 15 year old boy had put a glass gallon jar of pickles on it's side with out tightly closing it so now pickle juice over four levels of shelves and drawers full of fruits, veggies, so on and so forth .

He began to clean up the mess unasked and asked me how to get the drawers out , I showed him and said 'come ask if you need more help' (guidance) and he did so now all the kitchen counters are covered in stacked containers of left overs, the various shelves are clean and dripping dry, she comes in and begin crabbing to toss out everything but then says don't touch that if he asked "do you want this ?" .

I retreated to my E-Mails and soon he says she wants me in the kitchen....

I go up there and she says don't touch anything, get rid of all this mess, who dribbled water all over my floor and sink, I want to cook....

Not a single word of thanks to the teenager who un asked began cleaning up a horrific mess .

Think about this the next time any youn person looks at you sullenly ~ maybe they have reason .

OOPS ~ ! wrong response for this thread .

I did speak up, I always do and make sure the boys know how much I appreciate anything positive they do .

When I was young I was yelled at and belittled in front of others no matter what I did , I have never forgotten this .

These kids do not choose to be with us and they're allowed to leave any time they don't feel safe or properly cared for .

If Adults don't take the time to teach children, how can they later on complain if they go astray ? .

We've had some spectacular failures (one burned us out of the house) but almost all come back eventually and say "THANK YOU !" .

After she insisted I reassemble the refri before the inner walls were cleaned, she did afterwards make us a fantastic spicy stew....

The boy seems happy, he got some hallow'een candies .

My Mrs. sometimes gets crabby with me too. I always try to remember how much I deserve it (in general).

Oh, yes, I never claim other wise .

Some years (? decades ?) ago I was sitting at the dining room table when she hit me on the back of my head with a large metal skillet : BONGGGGGG ! then cackled and danced away like the bad witch in a kids movie .

I rubbed my head and asked " what was THAT for ?" .

She said "you deserved it !" .

"Yes, I'm sure I did but at least tell me what so I won't do it again...." .

She never told me =8-^ .

Life goes on .

You too? At least the wife does not dwell on whatever infraction I have been guilty of. .Never holds a grudge. All things considered. Her infrequent complaints are valid.

I am not that bright. Still all too well aware never to add fuel to the fire at those moments. Those that do add it. Do so at their own peril. Like a wound up toy they can unwind on us.

As the wife says. Men, you cannot live with them and you cannot shoot them. So no wonder they get frustated with us at times.

Now if a wife were to develop mad cow disease you could have a problem.

Reminds me I did not take the compost stuff out last night after I said I would. Better get it done. Before the reminder. I was just nicely asked to come take a pill. She has not remembered about the compost yet. So best to get it done before she does.

Somehow SWMBO doesn't see the humor in this .

I'm old, still waiting for the wise part .

Sometimes I'm sure I'm just like Grampa Simpson but I don't recall yelling at any clouds just yet .

Unlike many elders I'm cheerful and chipper, it's a choice each person makes, no one else makes you unhappy / angry .

First of all this is a hilarious thread. I had a good laugh. I can empathize with all parties. I gave up being right or governing by logic and reason alone in my family… long ago. Turn the lights off and close the door if your not in the room. “You sound just like my father!”
If she’s been told to do that her whole life, hearing it from me isn’t going to help. I’m mostly grateful she puts up with my BS.

People are a trip. I have a client, about 82, he works as an editor out of his house, mostly on Skype these days. Dude has boatloads of unaddressed anger, cannot look at himself as the source of his difficulties. More and more was dumping on me over boo - chit. Past tense as at his last borderline pyschotic breakdown I told him we were done. I have more work than I can handle now, if I advertised I'd have even more. I do sorta like the guy but enough is enough.

But there is a lesson to be learned here. I need to look carefully to see if I'm guilty of similar - old man shouting at clouds syndrome.

Good story about the boy. I suspect she mellowed out and showed him in her way that she approved of his behavior.

remember all of you will age, withh age comes inflamation. when low pressure comes around, less pressure allow's fluid filled joints to expand, and press on nerve's.It is why old folks frown, and grit their teeth in pain. also short temper's.

Watching my Sweet get dressed this morning I realize that although she still stopped traffic at 65 Y.O., that was a while ago, good thing I still like what I see .
