Anyone ever have Propofol for a procedure?
I have had a few times (colonoscopy x2 and wisdom tooth extraction) bt this was the first time I was not allowed to fully recover in the recovery room till I left.
I had the last 2 wisdom teeth removed on Fri morning. I was given propofol but this time I was "kicked" out right after the procedure. My memory from the time I "woke" up to the time I actually woke up in my bed at home as some huge holes in it. I do not remember walking to the car. I have very faint audio (I have no visual memory to go with it) recollections of being told to do something and me whining that I was trying or something like that. According to Ms Mash, we went to some smoothy place to get me a protein shake since I had not eaten. She said she read off all the flavors and I was saying no to all of them. Got to coffee with almonds and I said yes but no almonds. None of that rings any bells. We got home, she had a time getting me out of the car. Painters next door offered to help but Ms Mash said she could handle it. I guess she finally got me out and into the house. I do remember asking for something to to throw up in because I felt nauseous. Never threw up...thankfully. She changed me into my PJs and poured me into bed and the next thing I knew, I woke up a few hours later. I find it amazing that I was mobile, able to give basic verbal responses and yet have absolutely no recollection of 90% of what happened. Ms Mash called it conscious sedation and now I know why. Propofol is some really weird stuff. I never knew you could be 'awake' and yet a few hours later have almost no recollection of what happened during that time frame.

I've been under propofol twice for colonoscopies.
During my first procedure I had been scheduled at 3PM and I had an important function that I had to attend at 6pm. My doctor assured my he'd be done with the procedure well before then and I'd be able to attend my meeting at 6PM. Not surprisingly on the day of the procedure things were running late. This was causing me some aggravation and angst because of my meeting a 6pm. About 4:30pm the doctor enters the prep room and I immediately state that we may need to reschedule the procedure because of the delay? He begins smirking which annoyed me no end. Turns out he was coming in to tell me the results of the procedure. I had absolutely no recollection of being wheeled into the operating room or interacting with anyone after initially walking into the office. There was a time period of approximately 1-1.5 hours that had been totally wiped from my memory. Recently had a second colonoscopy and had zero issues - total recall of everything except of course for the time I was under propofol. Strange stuff indeed. Around here you must be picked up and driven home by a friend or loved one - I'm guessing because occasionally there are unpredictable side effects.
