Spiders in my yard.

I have 2 spiders in my yard. One is up by the mil box. I have a shrub next to it and it made a web at first in the shrub and then it made a bigger one between the shrub and mail box. Its a just a plain garden spider but damn its big. I think it could palm a dollar coin. From what I have read I think its a female. She has been out there for over a week in the same spot. I saw her catch a bug. The speed at which she go to it and wrapped it in silk was astounding.

I have a second spider in the back yard. It makes a web between a tree and the fence line. I think its a common brown spider but it hard to tell at night. I saw it making its web tonight and I am always amazed at how quickly it goes from main line to main line in nearly perfect concentric circles. By morning, all traces of the web are gone. Its been back there for over a week as well.

I’ve been in Waxahachi hunting all week. I can’t post pics from my phone but i’d bet i’ve seen 1000 orb weavers out here since Monday. we would drive in before the sun set and get into the blinds , the trails were web free. W usually called it around 2am . Had to watch out for them hiking back to the truck and then the ride back the truck was covered from driving through the webs .

We get big spiders here this time of year. They call them "Hobo spiders". I'm always walking into a web with a spider in the face.

We had a pretty strong thunder storm pass through. Both spiders made it though but the Garden spider has some serious rebuilding to do. The main lines were still intact but the web itself was pretty much destroyed.

So it looks like you have an orb weaver spider which is a good thing to have around pretty harmless to us, then the other is a brown recluse. Don’t get bitten by those guys.

I keep my distance from.both so I dont disturb them. The black/black one is pretty neat. She almost got a moth last night but the moth just missed the web. That would have been a huge meal.foe her.

I was part of a spider homicide last night. I was checking on my spiders residents and the brown one in the back yard had an interloper. There was a small spider of some sort crawling up the edge of the web. I am pretty sure the owner of said web knew there was someone on it but me, in my infinite wisdom, decided to blow a bit on the web. It was amazing how quickly the bigger spider raced over and wrapped the interloper up in webbing. It was all over in a few seconds. Very impressive.
