What turns you off in a girl?
Well, I'm going to make the blind assumption that most of our members are male, and ask that simple question.
There are pretty few weird quirks I can stand in people.. weird voices, talking too much, attention seeking, bad clothes, bad family, bad friends, even bad names (Doris?) can be enough to put me off a girl. Don't get me started on gigantic asses! Really though, I'm far more often put off by a girls personality than her looks.. you? Wow! Looking back, I sound really picky, but I'm not! Female input appreciated too...! later! |
what turns me off the most is dishonesty in a girl. IF a girl can't have the decency to be honest with you, then its the biggest turn off for me.

Probably turns me off if she is considered a "girl." I stopped using the term "girl" when I was 25. Between then and now (32?ugh) I think in terms of female, lady, women. Happens to everybody though as the only alt is death But to more seriously answr your question one term turns me off- Gold-diggers..ugh. Seems like most women/girls are just that these days. ;)
|
1) being dishonest
2) being "fake" (either mentally or physically) 3) being physically large (larger than me; I'm not looking for models) Those are the three big ones...fortunately, my girlfriend is none of those. :) |
Here are my biggest turnoffs:
1.Physical unfitness: I work out, ride my bicycle, and generally keep pretty physically fit, and eat healthy, good food. If you want to have any chance of showing up in my life, and you've got a roll, hit the highway. 2. Shallowness: Pretty much the same appeal as gold-diggery. Enough said. 3. Height snobbery: I'm 5'9 and a half. The only girl (or young woman) who should claim I am too short is one who is at least my height and greater. If you're 5'6 and consider me too short in stature, I have a couple suggestions of what you can do with yourself. Sorry if I'm blunt, but I'm a little bitter about this point. 4. Car snobbery. If you can't stand the fact that I drive a boxy Volvo sedan instead of some Honda with a body-kit, a Playstation II in the dashboard, and 18 inch rims, get lost! 5. Being Played: Unfortunately, I never seem to find out about this one right off, when I should. Ouch. Anyway, those are the things that burn me the most. -Sam |
What turns you off in a girl?

I can't stand girls that like to play games! or girls that say one thing to you and another to someone else  Another thing Girls that don't like Mercedes. My current girlfriend is one of these she says they are old people cars!
other than that not much unless they think they are better than everyone  how tall they are doesnt really matter I'm 6"2 and 255 my girlfriend is 5"11 6" 100-110 (??? I dont ask) ;) |

dishonesty taking without giving aloofness sloth immiturity constant men bashing and one lady went out and purchased a 3-series! Perhaps a flawed attempt at population control? |

Something that turns me off from a girl is an arrogant behave, not femenine, ignorant, closed minded and spoiled.
And defenitely a BIG turn off is bad breath  |
all you guys say good things, but I think the worst thing is a (I call girls females, or girls) female that bottles everything up inside and then explodes on you all of their problems and insists that you should have known better. How are you supposed to know a problem if they dont tell you?
I think that females that dont know how to understand are trouble because then they arent even worth your time. For instance, I see my mom and dad, they have been married for like 29 years or so, and my dad is really into cars and building things, and my mom is really understanding with that and she always helps him track things that he needs down. I think its awesome that she is so understanding. I think that most guys will go for females like their mother if they realize it or not, but I dont think that I will every find someone as good as my mom because she's the best. Females that are not clear of their intentions are bad news also because you have to be cautious of your every move almost like you are being secretive, and then they get mad because you are being secretive. physical things: -short hair -short in general -poor dieting skills (aka girls that dont know how to cook) (not to be mean or anything, but when a girl cant show me how to cook that means that if I were to get sick she wouldnt know how to nurse me back to health. I know how to cook also which would show her that I know how to care for her...so it goes both ways really. -bad breath...and messed up teeth |
They are, of course, all mad. It is just a question of degree. They are also, of course, different to us. And they are all (almost all, at any rate) absolutely charming in one way or another.

Hey! Gertrude is my wife's, brother's, inlaw's, grandmothers name!!! Where do you get off...Just kid'n.
ps: Girls, Women, whatever - omegabenz sounds on the right track. Iread somewhere that you pick both the positive and neg characteristics of your parents to feel like you are back at home again. That's right, the position you have been trying to get light years away from as a teen!!  This is why, for example women will go back to the guy that beats them up in many cases. Even though it's an unhealthy relationship, it's what she learned what "love" was as a child when her parents beat or abused her. Another mystery solved. |
Tank, I still live at home while I go to school. My parents insist that I stay home so I can work on businesses with my dad and family and that my mom will wash all my clothes. I know how, but she likes to do it. She's a homemaker, so I guess it's in her job description. I dont know, I wasn't ever beat, but I know what you are saying about girls. They have a jerk bf that beats them up and is mean to them, and they say they want a real man, but they really dont want that....they dont know what they want because most of them in those situations are unstable. Girls I think are socially supressed so they bottle everything up about sex, and how they feel, so they dont know what to feel or how to react to situations, that is why they like the guys that beat them is because they feel comfortable with them. Just my guess....

I don't know about all that psycho stuff...but

Fat girls is one of my turn-offs... and unlucky for me, I am in a city thats ranked in the top 5 fattest cities in the USA.
Luckily, the person I love is perfect in every way.. looks and personality:D |
Other than abhorrent hygenic habits, which are appropriate filters for sizing up a potential mate, I worry about how many of you have noted some pretty superficial characteristics to narrow down the "field". Too short, too fat, etc...
I believe the recent "golddiggers" thread that many of us participated in, reflected our disdain for women who sized us up in a similar manner, yet we are doing just that in this thread! You might say, "yeah, but they were talking about money, we are discussing physical attributes". If you look at history, men classically chose women that were attractive by their cultural standards, while a proper suitor's appeal was what assets he could bring to the table. In a few countries, the suitor brought gifts of camels, goats, and whatever to the bride's family as a goodwill token when he was to marry his bride. Having assets made a man a desirable suitor to many, and regardless of looks, was always a good catch. To me, it seems like things really haven't changed much...women are looking for men who have the means to provide them a comfortable life, while men search for women who are "easy on the eyes". Consider that for women, beauty is fleeting, and due to unforseen health problems or such (as is life sometimes), the beautiful flower you once knew may be disfigured, bedridden, or several pounds over her ideal weight. And men who once touted a fortune may be one day, peniless (especially the way things have gone with the economy these days). If there isn't more to what we look for in each other than hips, breasts and teeth, then the current divorce rate will just continue to climb... :( |
genes
Women look for a guy that can provide for them, and they want the "best" man to mate with. It is engrained in our genes that way. Men want the woman with the best genes. If they think that breast, legs, teeth, hair, eyes or whatever are the best genes, then that is what they seek after. Nowadays since women have really started to enter the work place and can provide for the families, then they dont need to look for the man that can provide the best however they still want the one with the best genes. I think that superficiality (is that a word?) is engrained into our DNA (Genes) so if some women think that the way to live the best is to be a gold digger, then thats what they will do. If they think its to have a working man like a construction worker to provide for them to build them the perfect kitchen, then thats what they want.
I have been talking to this girl that I know pretty extensively lately more as a friend than anything. When I talk to her about what she likes in guys, she says they have to be hot. I asked her would you marry a guy thats hot that beats you all the time and emotionally abuses you. She said yeah. I think that she says yes now, but later on when she grows up a little, she will probably think differently. I still believe that girls dont know what they want, or they think that they want something, but thats not what they want or should have. Girls have exbfs, and even though they dumped them for a good reason, they will still go back to them or if another girl wants their ex bf, they will do stuff to keep the girl away. I think girls are more territorial than guys. Like me, I dont really like to talk to ex girlfriends because I dumped them for a reason or they dumped me for a reason and our feelings changed. Thats what I think. |
TXBill...I never really thought of it like that. But usually its all about what I talked about in my last post, and then whats on the inside keeps you together. I think you are absolutely right. THanks for bringing that to my attention, I never really thought of like that.

All it takes for me is a girl who is reasonably intelligent, somewhat easy on the eyes (with good physical habits; ie: eats healthy, doesn't inhale a quart of ice cream after she gets into a fight with best friend or while watching Sex In The City, etc), and reasonably intelligent and motivated. Personally, I don't want someone who is blatantly mediocre in any area.
In regards to obesity, I consider that to be a part of personal fitness/hygene. Humans aren't meant to resemble the Goodyear freakin' Blimp. It comes from eating lousy processed fattening food that is so easy to fix and inexpensive to obtain in this modern world. This may seem harsh to some, but I look at chunkiness as a DEFECT, not just "something one might have to put up with". -Sam |
My aunt used to be skinny, then she got depressed and while my family was moving to another state my dad still worked. He lived with her for a while and he saw her eating high calorie high fat ice cream, and he used to mark little lines on the ice cream can and write the day...she ate like 1/4 of a half gallon at one night before bed. My dad bought low fat alternatives and it sat in the freezer forever. She doesnt really like my dad anymore because of that...my dad was just trying to point out to her doing that, that she is eating too much. Oh well, eat what you need to survive would be the most important thing so that everyone can have enough food to live.

Big turn-offs for me:
- Women who nag - Physical unfit. My idea of fat = lazy (hope I am not offending others) - Messy - Women who cry easily |
I find many women have an emotional need to feel morally superior to men, even when they are "wrong" or hypocritical or irrational... and the wrath one gets if you point out such problems

To me, nice feet (and nice shoes) on a woman is analagous to cross-drilled brake discs and nice wheels and tires on an MB...;) Either way, it's eye-candy, and makes the overall package more attractive! I shared this analogy with my wife and she just looks at me funny ...oh well. IMHO, it seemed that every woman I have ever had a serious relationship with had really nice feet...that includes my wife!;) Which bring me to another pet peeve...wouldn't it be logical that if you are going to wear shoes that expose your feet to the general public, you should at least check the condition of your peds??!! Nothing like seeing a woman wearing $200 Prada sandals having feet with heels the consistency of French bread crust!!! |

j/k my girl's about to get some Brabus slippers this saturday!!! woo hoo!!!! |
I think a lot of characteristics that many people call "superficial" are actually good indicators of other traits and habits that are NOT so superficial. And here's why:
To paraphrase something I heard a comedian say once: "Follow a fat, lazy kid home, knock on the door, and I PROMISE you a fat, lazy parent will answer the door." I've tested this rule, even though it was meant as a joke....It's not. I don't say this to offend anyone, but in my 33 years of experience, I've found that physical fitness, good hygeine, grooming, and just caring about one's overall appearance, demeanor and first impressions, or a demonstrated lack of these traits, have been pretty reliable indicators of a person's motivation, self-image, work ethic, social skills, etc.... Or a corresponding lack therof. Of course there's always exceptions and unforseen circumstances. But as a rule, I've learned that what you see is most often what you get. I believe there is a scientific basis as well. All living creatures on this planet, in some way or another, make an effort to choose the most appealing, strongest, and physically healthy and superior mate, in order to maximize the chances of having strong, healthy, appealing offspring, thus maximizing the chances of the survival of the species. It has worked since the beginnings of life on Earth. Why should anyone think humans should be an exception to that logic? Just my 2 cents again.... :) Mike |
Smoking, that is an immediate elimination.

well something has to be said about how sexy a woman looks when she's elegantly smoking a cigarette...
