Most common marque of vehicle among family members?

So, what brand of vehicle is most heavily driven among the members of your family (extended, in laws count here too).

I was just wondering, because in my family, the most common brand of vehicle (on both mom's and dad's side) is Volvo.

One uncle has a 1998 S70 GLT turbo, and a 1978 240 wagon.

His younger brother has a 1984 Volvo 240 Turbo sedan.

My mom drives a 1991 940 SE sedan (turbocharged also) and I drive a 1987 740 Turbo sedan

The 380SE (driven mostly by my dad now) isn't the only Benz in the family, his brother-in-law drives a red 1973 450SLC, with 69,000 miles on it (a sweet little car).

There isn't really anything else of note as far as cars go....a few American cars, lots of Asian cars (Nissan, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Hyundai).

So, does anyone else have a situation like this where there's one "standout" brand among family?

-Sam

It's hard to call, but Ford seems a little more common. I
have tried to stop them, but I am not up to the task. Wait,
we even have a Ford. Ranger. POS, that is. You would
think that a little tiny 4 cyl engine in a reasonably big
engine compartment might be easy to work on. No. All
of the parts are jammed into a one foot cube right next
to the steering box.
My sister is interesting. She has a Jetta, Pathfinder and
a 240-Z. All of her cars are 4 or 5 speeds.
No one else owns a Mercedes. I only have one now, but
I am reserving space in my garage for a Ponton right now.

Our family as a whole is quite diverse with cars. They don't really care as long as its reliable and gets them to where they want to go.

Now lets see;

One in the north has a SUV Toyota, Mercedes 230E 124, Honda Civic, while over here we have a SUV Pajero, 2 Proton Wiras, Honda Accord, RAV4 SUV.

Whereas my brother keeps his 123 200 in mint condition, and an Opel Zafira for runs.

Diversity.

You will love it when you bring that Ponton home. Those cars are just overflowing with character!! I cannot wait to get mine completely restored. I already get comments every where I go when I do drive it. My 1959 Texas plates arrived in the mail Friday. I'll be getting started on the process of using those on my car tomorrow morning.

family cars, just get better with age

We seam to buy and keep are cars in the family. My wife drives her 86 Volvo 240, I have the 87 560 SL, and I bought my girls both VW's when they graduated high school. They have an 87 Cabio and a 00 GTI. Fun cars. I expect they will keep these for awhile as well. The 87 has 22,000 miles and the 2000 is now at 9,400.

Had 4 Chrysler minivans in the family at one point. One was traded for a Honda Odyssey. Looks like we'll have 4 Odysseys in the family in 5 years unless MB brings in a dual sliding door version of the Vito.

With my family it's gotta be Mercedes. I have three (one for sale), my brother has two, and my step-mom has one. Every one else except for three drives imports: Audi A-4, Toyota Tundra, Saab 9-3, BMW 5 series, Acura, and Honda. The American cars are two Chryslers (almost Mercedes) and one Buick.

I know my mom's side of the family used to be rather heavy on Mopar, but as of now...hmm, let's see.

Me: 1985 300D, 1984 Ford F-250 truck (only two diesels around )
My mom: 1994 Ponticrap Grand Prix
My dad: 1967 Ford F-250 truck, 1992 Chrysler LeBaron

Mom's side:
Grandmother: 1990 or so Toyota Corolla
Grandfather: 2001 Ford Ranger (replaced the late '70's Dodge/Mitsubishi D-50 truck that he drove into the ground)
Uncle: mid '90's Ford Ranger, late '80's Toyota Camry
Aunt: 1994 Geo Prizm
Aunt: 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser; another 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser
Uncle: 1994 Ford Ranger; 2002 Chrysler Sebring

Dad's side:
Grandmother: 1988 or so Buick Regal (I think; it's a 4 door sedan)
Aunt: 1999 or 2000 Honda CRV

So, that's 1 Mercedes, 5 Fords, 4 Chryslers, 3 Generic Motors, 2 Toyotas, and one Honda. So, looks like Ford wins now.

Most of my family have relied on GM or Ford for their vehicle choices. My sister and her family have a GMC Savannah super extended conversion van and a Lincoln Navigator.

My other sister swears by the Surburban. To be honest though, I really don't care for them all that much -- they have terrible leg room in the back seat -- my 190e is more comfortable than the back of that thing!

My parents have mainly driven Buicks, but they bought a Ford Windstar when they retired. They have done absolutely nothing to it -- it's been a great vehicle for them.

Me, on the other hand, I think my cross to bear has been cars! I started off with an '88 Cutlass Calais. It was totaled in an accident where the driver hit me on the driver's side. Not a pretty sight. Then I drove my mom's '87 Park Ave. for about 6 months. In the meantime, they bought an '89 Mercury Sable with only 38k on it. I decided to buy the Sable for them because I was in college and the Sable had way less mileage. What a mistake that was -- it was a total lemon. I spent way too much in repairs, and then the darn thing literally BLEW UP!! Can you believe that??

Mom had so much good luck with her Park Ave. that I decided to purchase a Buick LeSabre. ANOTHER lemon -- replaced the tranny and a host of other things. When I thought everything was A-OK, it broke down again, to the tune of $2.8k. I said FORGET IT!

Found a GREAT deal on my '93 190e and have been so happy with this car. Great gas mileage and it doesn't break down all the time. I had to do the head gasket on it, but that's been the only major repair -- other than that, it's a champ. Soooooooo, thousands of dollars in debt later, I have a car that actually WORKS.

A seminarian with a Mercedes is probably an oxymoron, but I was looking for dependability, and I got this one at a good price. To those who look at me funny, I tell them, "TOUGH!!" They drive Cadillacs anyway.

Take care.
Michael.

My sister and brother-in-law have BMWs (one 3-series and one 5-series). My Mom drove a Jeep Cherokee. My girlfriend (nearly family) drives the TE a lot of the time, owns a FourRunner. Her family is saturated with Toyotas. Before he died, my Dad was a Ford-only man. My daughter's mother drives a Civic (her family is saturated with Hondas - lifestyle choice, they say). Son's mother drives a Jetta (her family has a Lexus and a couple of Benzes; a 500SL and a 300TD - different lifestyle choice, I would say).

I could include all the family lawyers that have been involved over the years. They're like extended family (I supported them for years). I imagine they all drive late-model imported German sports sedans.

I believe it. My girlfriend's first car was an '87 Taurus and her second was an '88 Taurus. Both were piles of garbage. The first one thre a rod out the oil pan and seized the engine. The second needed engine mounts something awful; we had heard that catastrophic failure could result, so we sold it for $600...and found out that it was abandoned less than a month later. Good riddance IMHO.

I'm a broke starving college student and I still have a Mercedes. I'll admit that I pretty much solely bought it for the diesel engine, though...I won't own another g@$$er as long as I can get away with it.
