Anyone know how to remove a Campy freehub? Is it removed the same way that you remove a freewheel? Must I remove the axel?

I assume that for...
...the purposes of your question you know the difference between a freehub a freewheeland a cassette.
![]() A freewheel is fairly easy to remove, just remove wheel from rear dropouts (rear stays), remove qr skewers, install the freewheel removal tool into the center of the freewheel (Shimano and Campy have different tools, that you can buy at your local bike shop), replace the qr skewers (without the little springs) to hold the tool in place, hold the tire firmly in place and turn the tool counterclockwise till the freewheel is loose, loosen up the qr skewer, then continue to remove freewheel by hand. Check for a spacer under the freewheel, be sure to put it back in place when you replace the freewheel. Removing the freehub is a little bit more different, but not much. the biggest difference is that you need to use a chain whip. Remove rear tire, remover qr skewers, attach removal tool, replace qr skewers (again, w/o the little springs). wrap a chain whip around one of the middle sprockets so it pulls clockwise, attach a wrench to the removal tool and unscrew it conterclockwise (if you are facing the drive side of the wheel, you pull to the right with the wrench and to the left with the chain whip), once the freehub lockring has been "broken" loose remove the qr skewer and continue to unscrew the freehub lockring, take off the lockring and then lift the smallest sprocket off the freehub body. Pay attention to this portion of the procedure and make sure that you remember exactly how the sprockets go, if you can, tape yourself while doing this procedure, it will make it easier to I do not know what you mean by "removing the axle" but if you follow the above procedure, you should be able to remove any Campy freehub. This past weekend I spent several hours overhauling both my road and mountain bikes. I do a major overhaul once a year, at the end of summer. I do minor tune-ups all year round. Working on my bikes is an extremely relaxing and rewarding way to pass th etime. It is almost as much fun as actually riding the bikes.

BENZ-LGB Thank you very much. I was able to remove the freehub with your instructions. The freewheel tool that I have for my Regina freewheel fit the Campy freehub. Again, thank you.

BENZ-LGB
The man that I bought my MB from was an LGB sales rep and the trunk was full of trains when test drove it. Unfortunely, the trunk was empty when I picked it up.

I am glad it worked out...
...for you Jay. I had forgotten all about the Regina freehubs. And you are right, the Regina tool will work with the Campy hubs.
I love working on my bikes (almost as much as I love riding). They are still "kinda" of low tech (except for some of the newer stuff that is really complex, especially in mountain bikes) and so bikes are fairly easy to repair. A well-tuned bike is like a well-tuned car--a total joy! I go nuts when I hear someone riding a bike that squeeks, squeals, grinds, etc. I also love my LGB trains...heck I like almost anything that has wheels or wings. Too bad that the trains in your car's trunk were not part of the "standard" equipment. Good luck and have fun riding!
