TR6 low oil pressure
Well, I had been questioning the accuracy of the oil pressure gauge in my TR6 and found it to be indeed accurate. The car is showing 40psi cold pressure, 20 psi hot @ 3,000 rpm and about 5 psi hot idle. It should be showing around 70psi at speed and 40psi at idle when hot. So after some research, I found out that most British car mechanics recommend changing the main and con-rod bearings, thrust washers and oil pump every 60K miles!! So a call to Victoria British and all the needed stuff is on the way. I did tell them however, that unless the bearings are made by Clevite, they can just keep them on their shelves. I do know that because English engines are not built with the excellent tollerances of German engines, it is absolutely CRUCIAL to use only the absolute best bearings or else the job will need to be done again in less than 5K miles!! Not saying that I wouldn't (or don't) use the best parts in a Mercedes engine, just that in an engine that needs such major work at 80K miles (the Triumph) I think it's obviously the ONLY way to go. If one were to use cheap bearings in a Mercedes engine for a similar job, I bet it would at least go more than 10K before needing them again! So anyways, I'm tearing the sump off the TR6 tomorrow and should have her back together by tomorrow night. It'll be a relief to see healthy oil pressure again!
