What kind of paint job do you think I can get for $900?

After I file my taxes I will actually have money for a paint job. What kind of paint job do You think I can get for 900 dollars? I will do as much prep work as I can, pull the door pannels and door sills off. And get it ready for the color change
Any advice
Thanks

Earl Schieb is a chain of auto painting places. Sometimes they do decent work, sometimes it is horrific. Depends which one you go to.

I'd still advise against the chains though, and going to a reputable privately owned place.

Earl Scheib - what memories! I remember being home sick and seeing his ads every commercial break! That was the 70s - Back then he said he would "paint ANY car for $49.95!" - As time went by I remember seeing his prices slowly climb (remember back in the late 70s we had some NASTY inflation!).

And another great thing about ol' Earl is that he had a picture of his face (really big) on the signs for his shops!

You should be able to get the left front fender painted exceptionaly well for that price. Remember the adage [you get what you pay for] and your fender should be very nice.

A really bad one...

For $900 they must be using the cheapest of paints and it won't last long may be two to three years tops.

Do you have an air compressor ? Do you have an enclosed garage area to work in ? Do you have several weeks that you do not have to drive the car ? Do you have any experience with paint ?
Tell me those things and I will tell you the secrets to getting a Perfect paint job for $900.....

Dan,

Is there anything that the BMW could use mechanically for 900 dollars? Preventative maintenance? Tune-up? Performance upgrades if everything's squared away on the maintenance front?

Your Bimmer will still run even if the paint's peeling off. However, a car with a nice paint job that doesn't run......

All I'm saying is that you might want to think about mechanically vital things the 533i might need.

leathermang,
Yes I have a compresser, No inclossed area I can get into, could drive the van if needed, very little work with paint other than repair on the 528e.

She needs a few things but not many. I have Control arms Thrust arms, Tire rods, Sway bar bushings, Idler arm, and sway bar links waiting to go on at x-mass break.
Tune up is done. Exhaust will be done in may. ETC.

The reason I'm needing paint is because of the chips the car recived in the tornado it sat through. They are starting to rust and pitting is'nt far away. The hood is gone because of a tree sliding across it and time is showing.
