Commuting....

How long is your commute.

I drive around 112 kms from Barrie to Scarborough each way.

I am really having fun at this Co-op job.

I am really getting beat up by this commute though.

People who brake on the downhill sections of the damn highway are going to get a push in the back from me if I get any more stressed though!

What about you guys?

Mike McKinney

I commute 40 miles each way on route 80 in NJ to about 10 miles west of NYC on Route 3. I'm sure that there are worse commutes, but mine is 1 hr and 15 minutes each way, surrounded by total idiots.

Thankfully, as I near 50 year old, I have calmed down a bunch and I don't let the idiots get me down,,,,,,,,but by the end of the week, the commute, combined with the workday, I'm bushed.

One of the nice things about driving a diesel MB, that I love, is I can't take any real aggressive actions if I wanted to, I drive defensively and I enjoy the ride. That helps keep my bloodpressure in check. Plus, if anyone tailgates me I just feather the throttle a bit, then mash the pedal and give them a face full of smoke. That backs them off.

There are days that some of the knuckleheads that try to beat traffic by weaving in and out, switching lanes, cutting people off and tailgating really drive me crazy. Thankfully, most days I just shake my head and keep driving.

"and give them a face full of smoke. That backs them off. " OH YEAH, I think the term for that is "smokey aggressive"...not defensive driving... it is only because you don't have the weapon ( engine power) to do what you would like to do, and they deserve

Barrie to Scarborough is a long drive, but I guess it would beat living in Scarborough. Do you take the 407? Pricey but fast. I work downtown on Bay St. and commute from Hamilton (worse than Scarborough). I never drive the commute if I don't have to. It's about 50 miles each way but in morning and evening traffic easily takes 2.5 hours on the highway. The Go Trains does it in 1 hour 10 minuites ass in 10 minutes to and from the station and I still save over 30 minutes wach way. No real frustration with traffic as most cars tend to get out of the way of the train (at least on my line).

Commuting sucks! My wife works here and her commute is only 15 minutes each way. I figure its best to live somewhere that she is close to, less chance of my Benz getting damaged if she's on the road only 30 minutes a day and doesn't have to take the highway.

OK Greg,,,,I'll admit to smokey aggressive........for the most part I'm pretty calm, but given the knuckleheads that are all around me most of the time, I'm allowed a few liberties.

Alon,

You're killing me with your 10 mile commute....enjoy.

The tailgaters really get to me.... I have been thinking about what kind of stuff could be sprayed behind me which would get their attention...

Carbon black mixed with Honey ? this would not wash off their windshield very fast.... but would not harm their car..... if it could be made to look like it BLEW out of the tailpipe that would be great.... I could claim bees built a nest and it just got dislodged at that moment....LOL

20 miles each way. Back roads first and last 15, and a choice of back roads at that. Normally never see another car. Thoroughly enjoy it on the way in, and on the way back there are a couple of pubs in the road to break the journey with a pint (or two...) of lager. i ought to take some pics...

Shyne,

LOL, I thought I was the only one that got frustrated with people hitting the brakes when going down hill. It's so bad on I-5 Southbound to San Diego that it actually backs up traffic! Would always drive my wife and I nuts, thank god we don't have to deal with that anymore!

Twenty four miles to work. Four miles to the city and it takes about three minutes to get back to the open road if you catch the traffic light. Nineteen miles of open two lane and when traffic is heavy, you may see 12 to 15 other cars. Sometimes I drive and think, and sometimes I just drive!!:p Entire trip is about 28 minutes. Now the road home, that can take a little longer!

That's called 'cavorting' not 'commuting'!!!

My Loooooong Commute

Howdy All,
Boy!¡ I don't know what you guys are complaining about!¡?¿ I have to get up at 0500 so I can leave the house at 0539 so I can be at the front gate at work by 0540. Then I have to drive on a dirt road to get to the hangers a couple minutes later. All this driving and having to watch for rabbits, coyotes, ferrel cats & dogs and the rare bobcat. Then I have to do it when I go home for lunch. Then I have to do it all over again when I get off of work. So my one way drive piles the miles on the car. Lets see, quarter mile to the gate, half mile from gate to hangers. WOW!¡ The one good thing is I use a company truck to go home for lunch. I hope all of you have some sympathy for my situation
