Walking harder than running? Yes!
I'm going to spend the summer in Denali, in Alaska, mountaineering. To get in better climbing shape, I've switched from jogging and running to walking on the treadmill. I set the incline as steep as it will go, and then the speed to a very brisk walk. DAMN! That is HARD!! I only covered 4 miles in the hour, but I was seriously beat, and soaked right through.
It is an awesome workout though! Highly recommended for those that thinking walking is for wussies... ![]()

I did treadmill for awhile a couple years ago. Your right! It's way tough. But it turned out to be bad for my knees. I talked to a physical therapist about it, and she said treadmills are not a "natural" walk, and can be hard on some people if they have joint difficulties.
Wish I could get back to it though! I dropped like 25 lbs in about 2 months off my 230lb frame. Was great! ![]()

I plan on wearing a loaded pack, making sure that my "weight" is correct. For back-country work, I've got a 30lb kit with food for 10 days.
