Unhappy Wrecked the BMW tonight.OKbut not totaled

Well tonight we had a lot of rain but it was no big deal because it's Florida. Well a girlfriend wanted to go to a restaurant in Titusville about an hour plus away so I said ok. Well the car was doing great all night then about 10 miles from home. BAM the good old rear end just steps out for no real reason. So went and slick that nothing I did helped I steered into the tail but it just kept going and going round and round back ward and round again finally sliding into the ditch for a long ways through the brush and ended in the trees and a LOT of mud. I checked on my passenger she was fine everything looked ok inside I couldn’t see the front trees were everywhere so I got out stepped into about 3 feet of water lost a shoe went around back to see my bumper is level with the ground and under water on one side the sides looked ok the front looks ok we are all ok but I'm stuck BAD! Call home my aunt and uncle head out. People are stopping to check on us at this point tell them we are ok and AAA is coming get back in the car to talk and make sure she is ok again and here comes a fire truck and evac so I get out with my mag light and talk to them say everything is ok and they tell me FHP will be right there. SO ok I ask for a blanket so she doest freeze to death the get one and away they go. FHP shows up gives me a thing to fill out if I want to file a report and leaves. By this time my aunt and uncle are there and we are still waiting for AAA. I had my aunt take the girl home and follow her to her house to make sure she was ok (I’m sure her parents will kill me now) So finally AAA shows up and I get to go scuba for the tow hook on the rear tire well got it and he pulled me out as I’m ripping out trees and all kinds of crap backing out. And then to ad insult to injury water starts pouring into my doors (SWAMP WATER TO) so the car smells now. Once he got it out I jumped out ran around the front to find a beat up fender a twisted bumper a bent valance one fog gone the other bent badly. I went around back to find exhaust full of mud and crap everywhere on the car. Had it towed home and I will check out all the damage tomorrow morning and post pics along with it. This was the one night that the digital was not in the car.
But thank GOD we were ok
Just had to vent thanks
PS I was not speeding

Well, think of it this way, at least nobody was hurt! Wash the car down on the exterior and run/idle it for a while...make sure things sound okay...then, if you could remove the carpet or get a good wet vac, maybe try to clean out the interior...and leave the windows open to air it out...sad to hear about the accident, but happy to see you are still around to post! Good luck...

Paul I'm not telling the insurance because of the fear of rate hike again. I will pay out of the pocket and do all the work myself

Before you say something like that maybe you should consider the fact that this car was know for that at it's birth. Semi rear trailing arms and negtive rear chamber are a large part of the cars stability when wet. Also Florida has it's own form of ice bad rain, oil on the road, and black top everywhere.

In hindsight Bill your right I was going a little to fast but 50 on a 55 (normal speed 70+ by most) seemed like nothing because the car had not had any trouble all night with hydroplaining.

Seriously man but maybe you should give it up with that old bimmer! I mean my w126 is old too but its like comparing Mangos and Potatoes between the 2.

Get something reliable and economical!!! BMW is not the way to go....I learned today...my aunts 330i with 30 000miles on needs a liter of oil every week plus other repairs.

Benzman, when lose control of your vehicle that means you are driving to fast for the condition unless these is a Aston Martin in front laying an oil slick. I am surprised you didn't receive a ticket.

Dan,

I neither like you nor dislike you. You seem like a nice enough guy and at least you don't engage in the flame wars. Your posts about donuts, burnouts, speeding tickets and 130 mph runs with bad running gear leads me to believe that for you, "it's only a matter of time before..." - you complete the sentence. I just wish that you would take some of the advise offered by the collective years of experience from the members of this forum...

I know nobody believes it but for once I was not being a idiot. The girl that was with can attest to that. I was not given a ticket by the FHP or Volusia County because they said that noting was funny looking, seat belts were on, and there had been no drinking involved. I understand why there is doubt about how I was driving but I can go to sleep knowing that I was not reckless and I did everything I was ever tought to do when such a situation happens.
As for tire condition it did play a role I'm sure because I had the BF Touring T/A's on the rear which were no help. Also my shocks aririved today to replace all 4. I also was not speeding up or slowing down either.
I'm also sure that her parents will be unhappy with me when they get back from the Bahamas but she has rode into school with me everyday since I got the car and never had a accident (except when she hit my friends Z71 Tahoe)
Since it's getting ready to rain I think I'm going to head out there and look to see how the road is when it's wet.
