Question How do I find stainless steel Italian sugar bowls?

After visiting Italy a couple times, I'd like to purchase a sugar bowl like the ones you see in the cafe shops there to compliment my espresso machine. The type I'm looking for is glass and stainless steel and always has a unique way of opening. One I saw has a lid that opens as you lift up the provided spoon. Another has a handle attatched to the lid that opens the lid automatically as you lower it. These are neat "marvels" of engineering. If any of you have been to Italy (particualarly Rome), you know what unique sugar bowls they have in their shops.

I've done ebay and google searches and can't find sugar bowls that are as unique as the ones in the stores there. Maybe companies that provide coffee related items to the cafes?

This forum is such a wealth of information, I thought I'd try here, even though it's an odd item to search for.

Any ideas??

Oops, no glass though. Where's the glass?

Thanks, Gilly.

Those sites are pretty much the same as I found using google.com.

When I was in Rome a few days ago, I tried to look at one of the bowls to see where it was made and who the manufacturer was, but couldn't make out the small letters. Unfortunatley, I don't speak the language well enough (ashamed of that considereing I'm a dual citizen with US and Italy) and couldn't convey what I needed from the gentleman behind the counter.

Thanks again for the help.

That last link doesn't work right.

Go to this site and enter "sugar bowl" in the sites search utility, you'll get 4 or 5 Italian sugar bowls to look at:

If none of those are what you want, since you are a dual-citizen, is there friends or family there than can help you out?
Maybe a fancy "espresso bar" or something like that in a large metro area here in the US can help you out also.

Great idea about checking out an espresso bar in the area. There's one near my house I can go to tomorrow.

I think the bowls I'm looking for may be available only to espresso bars, so that's a great place to find out.

Thanks Gilly!

I am a dual citizen, and have relatives in Rome. If I knew what they looked like, I could get my uncle or cousin to hook you up!

Paisano!!

Thanks G-Benz. I do have a good friend who works in Rome that could look into it for me. (I'm sure I have relatives too, just have to discover them. My nonno was from Rome.) Hadn't thought of going that route, but now I'll email him.

Hold the bowl in one hand, cash in the other, I think they would get the idea. ;-)

If they are imported into the States from Italy then all you have to do is contact the trade delegation at the Italian Embassy in Washington DC. I used the Finnish emgassy last year when I needed a certain kind of Finnish glass. Took them 5 minutes to find the distributor.
