Someone called my dad's Benz a Piece of *****
The car I was driving was my father's 1987 300E, which looks really good for the year, looks better than many new cars.
I was at the boat ramp today to pickup my shoes that I had left there earlier on one of the piers. I went back to get them and heard someone say, "who's car is that?" My car was in this pull around area where people get their boats ready to go before thy put them in the water. This guy's friend was already backing his boat in but he then said to someone else, "who's bimmer is that?" I then walked up and said that is my Mercedes. He then yelled at me, quote: "get that Piece of ***** car out of here!" I was appauled! I have never had anyone in my life refer to my dad's Mercedes as a P.O.S. He then said, "if their were a drunk guy here he'd kick your a** right here!" Then he repeated to me that I should get the P.O.S. out of there because it was a ramp. He was driving a newer Yukon with what seemed like a brand new boat. What a PRICK! All that yelling he did at me was within 1 minute. When I was driving away I had to keep both hands on the wheel to keep myself from extending my hand out the sunroof and giving him the finger, but i didn't. I wanted to point out to him that I drove a Mercedes while he drives a Chevy, but I knew it was a waste of my time. He was yelling at other people for little things also like he owned the place. If I ever see him again I will run him over 18 times and then reverse, etc. Have people ever done things like that where they think your car is crappy while their's are just god? David

Appalled. You were not appauled, but appalled.
Ignore these folks. He was pushing your buttons, and you nearly took the bait. It sounds to me like he was your typical over-blown jerk-off redneck, and does not deserve one moment of your attention. You could have pointed out that the technology in his POS was basically 1955 with some leather sewn on to justify the extremely over-blown MSRP so that morons like him might feel good about buying a truck for a Mercedes price. But, what would that accomplish? Just get in the car and leave. I couldn't really care what some yokel thinks of my car. I bought my Mercedes because of how it drives, not as some status symbol. If you re-read your post carefully, you could be accused of similar behaviour as your mouth-breathing adversary. You asume that your Mercedes is somehow superior and grants you social status above mullet-joe. Stop that thinking. Many people are not impressed by a Mercedes, BMW, or any other car. He was nothing but a rude confrontational jerk that was looking for fight. Drive away...

I don't think he thought your car was crappy...he was just using a figure of speech...like somebody callin' you an "*******"...would you actually go home and stand in front of the mirror and think to yourself, "do I really resemble that big black hole inside my asscrack?" no point in thinkin' about it any more...meaningless words by random ppl...who really cares...

Duck, is it just us Canucks? Has this happened to you? Even in the redneckest (not a word?) of places (Alberta) I have yet to come across this level of ruse behaviour. Maybe our rednecks are just plain polite, too.

The thing is that I am 17 driving my dad's car to just simply pick up a pair of shoes. The guy doesn't have to yell at me. He could simply say, "I don't think you should park there, people may need that". But instead he cursed something that is VERY dear to me. I just don't know who he thinks he is to comment on someone else's car. I try not to comment on other people's material things because it would make me seem stuck up.

He wanted to get a rise out of you. Later, while drinking his favourite beverage with his pals, he laughed at you backing down and slinking away. You had two options:
1. Defend your car's (a 3300lb bit of metal) honour, and take a swing at this fellow and have him (probably) beat you into next week. 2. Drive away and accept that they will laugh at you. Take the second option, put it out of your head, and move on.

Sounds more like he was pissed off that you were parked where you were. Were you blocking/in the way of the ramp?
Anyhow, don't feel too bad - I've refered to my own 92 400e, which is in really nice shape, as a POS on several occasions - often when I have something unexpected & expensive break or malfunction! Who knows, maybe this guy had a W124 and had to simultaneously fix his wiring harness and AC evaporator! |

Some parts were humorous because other people couldn't believe that he was yelling at me like he was superior to me because he had the big boat and SUV.

Someone made reference to them calling their own car a POS when they are mad and that is understandable. The thing about the car though is that I put a lot of time into it so it upsets you when someone says something like that anyway. Even if it isn't a car it would piss you off after you work on something to call it a POS.

BM I did take it personally enough to let him beat me up anyways so that way at least the authorities could get involved.

Dave,
You've really got to learn to shrug off stuff, especially random comments like this...it is really not a big deal at all, unless you keep turnin' it over and over again in your head and blow it out of proportion...if you keep doin' this for the rest of your life, you are gonna end up with a nasty ulcer...R-E-L-A-X!!!

That guy was a retarded redneck who only yelled at you because
a) He thought he could take you b) He was jealous you had a nicer car than his c) you are younger than him If I was there, I would've F-ed him up. Your car isnt a POS, it was just a figure of speech like the duck said. ![]()

Heh
*******s always seem to come out from caves when I am driving my 240D. Some 35 year old guy passes me on a two lane country road (I am doing 60) and think's he's the **** with his 1986 Prelude. See me in 330,000 miles pal...then we can race.
Or the guys who rev their engine at you, and then I rev my engine back. They take off like a jackrabbit, and I just slowly paddle through the gears like I am not even racing. We have an area in the city next to mine called "The Ave" Basically, all the ricers hang out at the Ave, and drive up and down, and park in Wendy's, and blast rap music from their ****ty stock stereos the entire time. My friends and I intentionally go there on Saturday, load up the Daler Mehndi Indian Hip Hop/Pop CD, along with Happatei (a Japanese Boy Band) and other funny music (Right Said Fred, Men at Work, Men Without Hats, French Rappers) and drive down the Ave with all the windows down, blasting this stuff as loud as possible. We always look menacing too, heh. My new style has been wearing a suit jacket over a t shirt with sunglasses, and people get freaked out :p Anyhow, a little off topic. It's amusing to "fight the power" at least in my area by making a total mockery of their Saturday ritual of driving up and down a 4 lane Avenue.... -Kyle |
