Why the data format MM/DD/YY ???

Dear friends:

Could someone tell me why the US wants to use the date format MM/DD/YY while every other country in the world sticks to the intuitive format DD/MM/YY ???

Because in English we say "September tenth" and in other languages they say the equivalent of "tenth of September."

If you don't like that answer, then how about this one. "Because we've always done it that way." Just like how we refuse to convert to the metric system. And how the British refuse to drive on the right side of the road. Old habits die hard.

I knew you were going to say that. Physical proximity to the rest of Europe makes the UK much more likely to be influenced by them. The U.S. has always acted much more like an island nation. Sure, we have neighbors, but we're bigger and stronger than them, so we just bully them around.

No date format is more "intuitive" than another. It's just a matter of what you're used to.

What I can't understand is why we don't use the more intuitive and vastly superior metric system instead of the gobblety-gook measument systems that we currently employ. I can recall when the U.S. actually made an effort to convert and failed. Are we really not bright enough to comprehend something that basic?

I think we can't change over to the better and more easily understood metric system because it may offend someone who's belief system is based on the english method! :p
