The shop I frequent gets a lot of turnover so its hard to find a good barber and stick with him/her...they eventually go off and start a solo gig. I pay $20 for a cut (including tip).
But the joint is close to work and convenient, so I just start over again every time. Fortunately, the hires are pretty competent, so I don't ever leave with disastrous results. But I guess it's age, but now they offer to trim my ear and nose hairs! |
I stick with one Vietnamese woman in McLean, VA. Like most of you guys, once I found someone that did a great job, I stuck with them. I won't go to anyone else unless I move out of the area, which is unlikely since I just bought my own property.
$14 plus $3 tip = $17 total about every three weeks to a month between cuts. |
I have extremely curly hair, almost african in its tight coils. A black co-worker wonders if my grandparents were "passing". A generation ago that mattered. Nowadays Who gives a flip? When long hair was cool, I tried to grow it and ended-up with a giant pillow floating around my head. The positive side is that when properly cut I can let it go almost a full quarter. Also, it keeps my head warm as a stocking cap. I have blue eyes and fair complexion so instead of calling it "afro" I call it "Euro".
I have learned from sad experience that most white barbers don't deal well with my kind of hair. Asymmetries abound. I had one young woman burst into tears and apologize--as well she should! My wife took one look and nearly cried, too. I ended-up nearly getting shaved. That's not a pretty sight: I've got one of those lumpy skulls on which a phrenologist could read a novel. My current "barber" is my wife's beautician. Her shop is attached to her house. She's from Honduras and her husband, a Cajun, has hair like mine. So consistently she gives the best haircut I've ever had. Costs $12. Botnst |
The woman cuts mine every four or five years ,I hang it in the apple trees to keep the bears out...................

I go to the Citadel barber shop every 3 weeks. 10 minutes after parking your car and $9 later you're driving away, no matter how many cadets are in line Their clippers are hooked to a vacuum system so absolutely nothing gets on you. Very clean, very fast, and 6 barbers that hustle.
