Wrong key opens my Benz!!
I went out to the Benz yesterday after doing some shopping, pulled out my keys, and accidently grabbed the Audi key to unlock the door. The stupid thing actually went right in and unlocked the door!!
So much for security! Good thing is, it doesn't work in the ignition switch.

The 83 SD is the same way. Any key with the same general shape will get you in. The starter switch is a little more picky.

I've seen some car shops where they make plastic copies of a key to open the door, but for the ignition you need the real key. I guess it cuts costs, but now that you know this, you see how easy it can be to steal something you leave in the car on a parking lot. I used to open cars on paid parkings with a thin piece of metal when I was little, then I lost that piece of metal and so ended my career of a car thief

Did this same key also disable your alarm?
