420SEL VS MUSTANG GT 5.0 why?
Last night a friend and myself were coming back from the motor sports expo. My friend has a 95 Mustang GT with roller rockers, 4.10 gears, exhaust, ignition, etc. A good looking 420SEL pulled out infront of us so my friend romped on it and got into the other lane. Well I guess the 420 took it as a challange As much as I love the 4.2 v8 there is no way it's going to beat a Mustang at low speeds (under 100) The was pushing the car hard and the m116 purred (MB roar) by after my friend let off at 80. I just don't understand why the guy in the 420 would try to play with somethin made for speed and not a luxary ride.
But I'm sad to say that the 420 had no chance the mustang toyed with it well through the speeds. just thought about posting when I saw the w126 on Die Hard gettin pushed. |

might try that Mustang out on a 500E.I'd blow that Mustangs doors off with my Euro 500 SE if had a very long clear straight stretch.I blew a mustang off with a ratty looking 454 Suburan years ago must admit I got an unfare jump on him as he never expected I was building up on the brakes and watching the light like a hawk.........

123c I understand that and I tried telling my friend that, but where were was about a mile to each stop light no room for high speeds.
Whats 500E run in the .25 mile? Because this Gt is running a 12.8 |

you have to watch out a lot of the Sn95 Mustangs do have 2.97 gears It would take them for ever but they could get up there all though I would be afraid to try.

don't forget that the 500E was designed to be an Autobahn cruiser, not a drag racer. typical of most MB "supercars" the 500E is at its best when cruising between 80 & 120mph and can really drop the hammer in mid-range acceleration. it has a very flat & broad torque curve where close to 90% of the 354 lbs-ft are available before 3000 rpm and almost all the way to redline. it takes a bit (not much) to get the car going, but when it's on cam, it's pretty tough to beat. standing 1/4 mile is respectable, but from a rolling start, the 500E is enormously tough for other cars of the same vintage to catch up. Most american built performance cars tend to be quick is a straight line but absolute $h!t when it comes to handling. the 500E is a master at high speed handling.

The comparison was made in jest. I can walk in my garage and get in an old Ford with a high strung small block V8, a cookie cutter Honda, a Mercedes or the supercharged Regal. Each one is a completely different car. The Regal is no match for the Mercedes as far as quality and feel and it's ten years newer. The Mercedes is no match for the Regal in performance. In a comparison of apples to apples I'm sure that a six cylinder supercharged Mercedes would outpower the Buick. But at what cost? The 500 was a majestic car for it's time. Somewhat eccentric in my opinion and out of my league in cost. Whether they become classics has yet to be determined. The last time I looked they were still depreciating.

I remeber a few videos on kazza of the 500e getting killed by older m5's off the line. The thing I really like about my friends Mustang is how cheap and EASY modification parts are to come by. It's not like the 500 or 533 in any respect with parts
