Coach who gave "Crybaby" award 2 13-year old given "You're Fired, Dumbass" award
NJ Coach Draws Fire for 'Crybaby' Award
by KYW's Matt Leon
The Pleasantville, NJ school board voted Tuesday night to fire a middle school basketball coach because he gave a "crybaby award" to one of his players.
The coach handed out the award to the 13-year-old player at a team banquet.
As he made the presentation, Guillen reportedly told the audience he was getting the award because "he begged to get in the game, and all he did was whine."
The trophy itself consisted of a baby figuarine on a pedestal. To make matters worse, the youngster's name was misspelled.
This is the child's father, Terrance Philo:
"He was hurt. How would you feel if someone gave you an award with a crybaby on the trophy, in front of your peers?"
There is a question whether or not the firing is legal, because it's the superintendent that has authority to hire and fire and he has recommended lesser discplinary action for first-year coach James Guillen.
The teachers' union also says the firing is too harsh.
