Start using straight thirty weight oil. Will reduce oil consumption and smoking substantially. Works most times.

If its a minivan (with functional AC!) I think of all the parents that need a 3rd row vehicle...but the only options at the price point are Chrysler products with suicidal transmissions (that generalization is from my experience only...)

Disclose all like you did to us and sell. Better those kids be strapped into a proper seatbelt in a vehicle that smokes, than be shoved 4-wide into an old Chevy malibu...

If you wish to give it away and feel ethical about it then find out if there is a local men or woman's shelter and work out a deal with them.

They can then put it in the hands of someone who needs a car to get to work.

There have been several people who have, over the years, asked if I could find them a car since they were down on their luck. I would buy then a used bicycle and help them find a low level job.

Then, after a few months of showing they were for real, I would find an old beater, pay for the first two months of insurance and all the taxes, and put them in something that would get them from A to B.

In every case it put them back on their feet. It made all the difference in the world for them to get just one break in life.

I hear a lot of people whining about 'welfare queens' and 'Obama phones' and yet none of them seem to care about what they could do to being about an end to such a situation.

So yes, it takes a bit of work on your part. But its' worth it.

Ben said "Ethical". Someone said junk it. X2. Get that smog polluter off the road. Care for humanity and the birds and the trees and oh yes, do it for the kids. You're a CPA. That sounds ethical, no?

Otherwise, CL it.

But a quart a week. How many miles is that? Some kid or poor person would burn it up in a couple of weeks. That's borderline unethical. BTW, do they inspect used cars when purchased down there?

Just sell it saying it needs an engine. Someone will buy it and put an engine in it.

Its not unethical if he discloses one quart per week.

OTOH I always keep in mind everybody knows where I live. I'm easy to find.

Today there are many tests to determine if an engine needs replacement.

When I was a kid the standard was: Are you burning a quart a week? Time for a rebuild!

(You could even buy anti-foilers that would keep the oil off of your spark plugs. The real problem with excessive oil consumption from a getting to work angle is the oil splashes past your rings and fouls your plugs. I knew of one guy who could not get his engine to stop running until it seized up. So much oil was bypassing the rings it was burning in the cylinders like a diesel until it was all burned up.)

This could be an opportunity for some person that is looking to flip it for some profit.

Check out Craigslist. Under used auto filters plug in a max price of $600. Notice how many cars are for sale that all need some sort of repair.

You could scrap it for $200, at least you could around here if you tow it to them, so anything above that is good.

Or even that if it saves you from towing it to the wrecking yard.

I'm not particularly a car guy, but wouldn't a quart a week eventually foul the CAT ??

New cars here are inspection-free for 5 years, but I think used car purchases require an inspection upon purchase. What would the effect be, if any, of that much oil burning on emission standards? What if he was burning synthetic oil?
