Also, do these allow you to see better than my normal high quality H4? I've heard although the light is whiter, you see less.

Super Plasma Blues. Youre right, the light on the ground is whiter because it is more concentrated. What you see you see better, but you dont see as much.

Mike,
I recently bought some 80/100W Eurolite H4s and they are fantastic. In fact, I am amazed at just how strong these bulbs are. Before these, I had a different brand (don't recall which) that I thought was good, but these are much brighter and really illuminate the road. Still, if you say those other brands are good I'll take your word and will try them too. Eric |

Personally I have never tried the Eurolights because of the negative response they have gotten. If you search for Eurolites on the philips forum you will see what I'm talking about. Most of the people have US headlights, it may be different with Europeans. Im glad theyre working out for you.

Also,
Regarding whiteness and ground coverage: Ground illumintion is more a factor of proper (or improper) aiming. My right light is aimed to the right, and as high up as possible to illuminate road signs, people, deer, etc. The left is aimed to the center-right, and a bit higher up than normal -- but not too high to get flashed by oncoming traffic -- to illuminate as much of the road ahead of me as possible, and any object in it. (Police cars show up EXTREMELY well!) Even with these settings, the ground immediately in front of me and to the sides is very well illuminated. The only blue tint I notice is a reflection from the bulb's glass. The light, itself, is pure white. Eric Silver |

quote: That'a what I am suspecting. The US assemblies can make a good bulb appear bad, and a Euro assembly can make a bad bulb appear good. (I could light candles in my Euros and they would illuminate better than my US assemblies.) My new concern now is proper wattage -- if my 80/100W bulbs are too high for the assembly. I don't want to end up on fire by the side of the road -- like so many BMW's. Eric Silver |

I was driving yesterday next to a BMW 740 with apparently real xenons. The difference was very noticeable.
I could reproduce the effect by re-aiming my headlights and fogs downward, but the BMW's illumination was a bit "denser", for lack of a better term. In fact, his lights were not quite as white, but the candlepower was clearly greater. This is obviously also because his fogs are closer to the ground and thus better at illuminating it, and, being closer to the ground, does not need to be aimed downward and thus has longer range. I drove a 1998 Mitsubishi Diamante two years ago and the effect was very similar. Eric Silver [This message has been edited by EricSilver (edited 09-14-2000).] |
