560sec new motor install and rear diff upgrade
hi all,
i think its time for me to search for a 560sec for a project car. prices are about right for a high mileage. i know satish tummala did a motor swap. anyone hear from him? im interested in doing a project like dat now as well. any idea of costs of a 5.0L sl500 motor or how much a euro 560sec 300hp motor would cost? is it possible to put a 5 spd tranny in there? euro rear diff upgrade and associated costs? labor costs? thanks all!! |

i have heard
that the v8s were never offered with sticks and so that there are no bell housings available. some of the older sls were offered with v8 sticks though but i dont know if the bell housings will bolt up or not. the five speeds with the two part case are quite robust though and if you can figure out how to bolt one up it should be strong enough.
if you find a way to do it i would love to put a stick in my 500sec. the rear ends from the euro cars should bolt right in. tom w

There are several version Euro 560 motors and only the ECE version produced 300bhp. However there is more than just the motor to get 300bhp... the EZL, computer and exhaust have to switched. Not to mention the transmission is geared differently. There is alot of work involved to get the full Euro 300 ponies.

Engine Swap 560SEC into 500SL
Seeking some comments please on my proposed engine swap .
1992 560SEC with 5speed box ( 4+OD ) into a 1982 500SL , both Euro Vehicles . I have the option to swap to the 1992 560/engine /box with 80,000 KM (not miles ) or completly reco the 1982 500SL engine . Cost not the issue , so what would the best move be for me , appreciate your comments please . Den Downunder |
