k&n on 93 "E"

finally got the correct k&n for my car. having a 93 e does have some interesting problems. they had sent me the big round one for the M103 engine and in fact the k&n catalog says that's the correct filter for a 93. the nice young lady at k&n tried to convince me that i had modified my engine and changed the airbox ! i then assured her that i hadn't and that the 93 had the m104 engine same as the 94. she checked with another tech and finally told me that yep i was right. so martel was nice enough to replace the filter for me. i popped it in when i got it, drove around and was shocked that the car felt absolutely the same! so i went and read the literature and discovered that i had forgotten to apply the stickers ! seriously though, i can feel a somewhat livelier throttle although i doubt that i really feel anything in the seat of my pants. now i have to go do the y-pipe project...

Did you really expect to feel a difference WITHOUT the stickers!?? Geesh! hehehe

Like I see on all the Honda boys.....It's not the parts it's the stickers. Ummmmm I think.

280CE,
He meant the sticker to put on the airbox! It's a reminder to not replace the air filter, because it's re-usable after a cleaning (and oiling) after 50k miles.

Joe,
When I got my K&N air filter... the only thing I noticed (I think, anyway), was that it seemed to rev higher faster once the RPMs were up high.

David,

Have you looked into the y-pipe? I'm going to ask my local muffler guy to make one for me - assuming he doesn't turn it into a major project. I think I do feel a little bit of improvement in throttle response. Now with a little bit of exhaust noise I'll really believe there is a difference !

Joe

Y-pipe? For the exhaust? Elaborate... I don't know exactly what you mean.

But no, I don't plan on changing the exhaust!

280CEBoy,
I know you were joking! But didn't know if you knew exactly what the sticker was! (Thought you were thinking it was merely a sticker that said "K&N")

Since I'm looking at K&N as a replacement for my 93 300CE, can you let me know the correct part number for the m104 motor? Based on my review of various threads you'd think that K&N would have finally caught on that they keep sending out the wrong filter.

Thanks

Do you guys notice any difference by using the K&N filters.

I have heard from several MB techs that this filter allows larger particles to go through than the stock paper filters. Larger particles can cause engine damage.

I just put K&Ns in last weekend and am trying to convince myself that they make a difference....perhaps, but very subtle.

As for "damage", I'd say that it's conceivable that these filters increase engine wear over time, especially if you're routinely driving in a dusty environment, but not conceivable that any outright damage will occur, or at least that's another point of which I continue to try to convince myself.

Hey guys. On the same note... well sort of. I just sawed off the stupid air-intake scoop on my car (92 300E), and well... it worked. Before, it would take a LONG time for the car to push up from 100, but now... its just about the same as going from 60-80... really really fast. Just a thought, it might do more than K&N... and only takes about 5 minutes with a mini-hacksaw...

david,
there was a previous thread that basically said to get the cars breathing freely you get a k&n and get rid of the resonator. i'm assuming that the exhaust configuration on the C280 is the same with a resonator then a muffler after the cat. you replace the resonator with a freeflowing straight pipe that has a "Y" in it to mate up to the dual pipes up front ("y-pipe"). if you take a look at the "timevalve" discussions that's what it's all about. allegedly produces a subtle growl and a little extra oomphh..

badinfo,
so you don't need the supercharger anymore?

bpkinatl,

i got 33-2705 by figuring out that the 93 300e had the same filter as the 94 e320 through fastlane. double check that you have the same part and you should be good to go. don't know any other way to do it . btw, i looked up your car and k&n came up with an "E-" which i believe are the big round ones.
