Engine numbers
Hi there
On the service papers I get at every service the engine number i stated. Is this number a production serial number of some sort ? My number is: 119974-12-006906 I know that the 119 relates to the engine type of the 500E, but what does the 974 and the 12 mean ? Does this mean that my engine is number 6906 build ? |

Hi Sorel- -
sorry I can't help de-code... ...but was wondering, what AMG pieces you have on your 500e? and, can you share how you feel they have enhanced the vehicle before vs. after? tks-fad PS- have you signed in on the 500e/e500 owner thread? |

The 119 base engine (V8) was also used in the E420, S420, S500, and SL500 (possibly more too, but these are what I know) the next three numbers get more specific (displacement, etc). For example the 974 is the E500. 119.975 is the E420, and 119.960 the SL500 and so on -various incarnations of the same base engine modified for application and varrying in displacement (slightly) I have no idea what teh 12 and the last 6 numbers signify.

Hi
Thanks for the great replies, so I guess a good guess is that the last numbers is the serial / production number of the engine ? Any other 500E owners here ?, what are you engine numbers, or maybe MBUSA don't write you engine number on the service papers ? Regarding my AMG changes, well I bought my car used, but from the papers I can see that it went straight from factory to AMG Bauwerke, at that time in 1992 a sepearte company from Mercedes-Benz AG. According to the papers it got a lowered suspension all details documented in the papers, but they are in the car at the moment. And AMG 17" monoblock wheels, later upgraded by me, to 18" AMG monoblocks. It has also got AMG alu door panels at all four doors, but without any light in them. And at last a AMG logo at the trunk as well. As far as i can see no changes have been made to the engine, and that also fits with what is staed here on the forum. That it's hard to tune the car much more with chips, etc. ! The other side read E50, I guess it lost a zero at some point in time, but I feel that this just makes the car more exotic |
