The 1st picture is Alain's NACA ducts down by the fog-lamp access hatch.

I also found this site where the NACA ducts where cut into the front bumper. Anyone gonna try it?!

Check it out:

Great story Alain, I think my wife enjoyed it more than I did. :p

Oddly enough, I have heard her mention things about the 500E's performance that she should not know. For instance, is your "Signifigant Other" supposed to know that the car will do 120 mph without breaking a sweat?

Currently, the 500E is my wife's car as well. She has some good stories/kills, esp. while merging on the freeway, and sprinting out of traffic/dangerous situations.

Since we got the 500E for her, she understands why I wanted to initially drop the M119 V8 into the wagon.

In her words, you find holes in traffic where none existed before.

As our baby gets older and she wants to carry more stuff (stroller, baby jogger, crib, etc.) I'm hoping to drive the 500E more often. . . . fat chance she says. . .

Guido,

Just received a BMP (Bmw only) catalog yesterday in which I found a very cool M3 brake duct kit which feeds in through the fog light opening and mounts directly to the hub. I'll fax you the page when I'm back at work Monday if you'd like.

I finished one wheel this weekend....will post pix very soon...total cost $28 for one side with a 3" air duct from Truechoice Motorsports mounted next to the left motor mount air duct in the air dam/bumper. Won't be able to track test it until June 22 though.

Jim- do you have any pictures and progress to report on your brake-ducting project?

Alain- do you have any pictures of how the brake duct attached and blowed onto the caliper?

I just did ButtonWillow in Config. #14 (counter-clockwise), and COOKED the late-model E500 (600SL) brakes.

When I was done, the brake-pads were starting to separate, the rotors were blue and warped, and the high-temp MB grease was burnt-to-a-crisp.

BTW: my best time was a 2:17 and my instructor's was a 2:15, and we both noticed the incredible fade.

Next time: race pads and ducting. Street-version of Porterfields and "yellow-box" Textars just don't cut it.

Neil, which brake pads did you destroy at BW... the Textars or R4-S? Are you considering a "big brake" upgrade like the brembo kits from Bekkers, etc? Just curious...

I started with the "street" version of the Porterfields, cooked them after (2) 20-minute sessions with 1-hour in between.

I switched to "yellow-box" Textars for last (3) 20-minute sessions (1-hr break between), and cooked them.

I doubt any "big brake" conversion could really help, UNLESS I can get some air-flow over the calipers & rotors.

I do have a Wilwood conversion (13-inch) that I MIGHT switch to. Check it out below.
