"Caveat Emptor" is all I can say...
I would encourage you to compare specifications, carefully, before you spend dollar one: I must admit that I have never heard of the "keeping up with the Joneses (Mercedez-Benz)" LH chip you mentioned (with all due respect to the manufacturer). To some, "code is code" / "software is software," in my profession; however, the proof is in the pudding. I recommend sticking to the major vendors (especially Mercedes tuners who stake their reputatiuons on enhancing a single, quality brand of automobile): AMG and RENNtech, specifically (virtually synonymous, thanks to Mr. Feyhl). This is merely my opinion. May the most educated consumer make his/her own choices. Kind regards, |

Actually, I was referred to JET through board members. They have been around a while and have chips for many applications. I was just suggesting it for others to look into for their specific models.

PAD chip
I've got a PAD chip in my 500E and it seems to have taken the rev limit off. How does the max speed limiter work anyhow? It couldn't really work of the speedo could it?

I have just received the following e-mail from AMG, directly, in response to my inquiry about an AMG chip: Dear Mr. Scott, You can be sure that AMG did not offer an LH-chip for those vehicles (500E) but may be several dealers in the USA do offer such products. It appears so... I am in the process of comparing code from as many major manufacturers' 500E "performance chips" as I can. With the help of some fellow 500E/E500 owners, I would like to test my hypothesis that, short of the binary values which may or may not identify the vendor/manufacturer of said chips, there is probably *NOT* much difference between vendors. I am assuming that one or two original vendors (like RENNtech and BRABUS) made such chips, via a real R&D process, and that the majority of other "tuners'" offerings are merely "variations on a theme." Anyone with a PC and a device programmer can create a "custom chip;" therefore, I am very interested to learn my results. After all, selling chips which origanlly cost $4.75 blank (less, in bulk) and are marked up to sell for $200.00 - $300.00 is *QUITE* a lucrative venture! AMG Chip
There is a guy (Oscar Velez) who advertises in the Star Magazine at mechtronic@hotmail.com and that is where I bought my chip. His team lives in Puerto Rico and primrily does performance tuning and mods for the South American clientelle. I think they manufacture their own chips... He's been very great/easy to work with and I could not be more pleased with the increased throttle response on my '92 500E. Today, I'm expecting two KN's so I should be able to distinguish the added value the filters bring.
Somehow in conversation, I got the impression that Oscar used an AMG specification to make his chips.

Yes and based on the comments of those that have a first gear start, It sounds like I should get one. Mr. Velez sells his for $900 (I think) which is considerbly less that RennTech...
