Yakuza (?)
I just saw an elderly Japanese gentleman and his wife (?) in a Black Pearl 500E, at 7th and Ashby, in Berkeley.
I waved, honked, smiled, and tried to "make the connection;" all I got was a stone-cold stare. |

My wife reports seeing a very well kept E500 in a residential driveway in the Old Town area of Palo Alto last week.
I occasionally get fooled by seeing the flared front fenders on what turns out to be a 300 coupe. s/b |

I used to live in the Coto De Caza area of Orange County, and I have on 2 occasions seen a dark colored 500E/E500 of someone living in that neighbourhood. Attempts to catch up with that car were unsuccessful.

Scott,
I saw the same pearl black 500E, driven by a middle-aged or older Asian man and his wife, in San Rafael a few months ago. I also tried to make contact, but he was uninterested. As I was getting into my car yesterday in Mill Valley, a woman walking her dog said that her husband had a 500E, pearl black/black. Tom 92 500E |

in my view I care not of the badging sequence (traditional, proper- or not) ...hopefully a real AMG 6.0 was breathing inside! best regards -fad PS the actual "E60" badging looked spot on to factory style lettering/numbering |

So true ...
Oh, the 6.0 Liter ... makes one smile !
I met a forum member several months ago with a 560 SEC 6.0L AMG ... Bella, Bella Machina! Some day, I'd love to yank-out the 5.0L and do the conversion ... $$$$$$$$, but what a sleeper it would be!

6.5L
Norman,
I would venture that what you REALLY want is the Brabus 6.5L conversion. Start saving your $41K... and hope your rear differential doesn't EXPLODE!!! PS - It drives me INSANE when drivers badge their vehicles improperly!!! |

6.5L?
Scott:
6.5L ... in the closed deck block, yes? I didn't know Brabus did that ... if so, I need to drive up to them and investigate further. 6.5 LITERS!!!! OMFG

I believe Brabus can accommodate eiotehr deck design; however, I would not try it on an open-deck version M119!
Here are the details (pardon Brabus' broken English/improper grammar, etc.): *********** Hello, yes we do have a 6.0lV8, producing around 400hp and little over 400 lb-ft of torque but it it's not certified for California, smog wise that is. This engine must not blow up your transmission, otherwise Brabus had not certified this perfromance upgrade. All internal parts are new, the specific OEM's aren't released by Brabus but rest assured it's top notch. The 6.0L engine runs $22,709.00 installed, broken in incl. tax. Our break system is $8,532.00 incl tax and installation. I don't have all the specs available but is has cross drilled front and rear rotors, probably 14.2" front and 13" rear with 4 piston aluminum calipers front and 2 or 4 piston calipers rear. The OEM is Alcon. The engine upgrade is a little bit tricky, certification is very expensive and at the end of day it would not be profitable for Brabus. Please let me know if you really want the engine. Shell Sent: Wednesday, April 09, 2003 11:39 AM To: Andreas@brabus-usa.com Subject: questions, continued... Andreas, I was afraid you might say that... (no parts a la carte, even if installed at the Brabus facility). ; ) Doesn't Brabus also offer a 6.0L upgrade for the M119 motor? If so, what is its total price? Please include a detailed kit-of-parts for the upgrade (i.e. - components/manufacturers/specs, etc.). My concern is that so much horsepower/torque will wreak havoc on the final drive/transmission and subframe; my friend's RENNtech 600E ran roughly 405 horsepower at 420 lb-feet of torque and his Gleason-Torsen (locking) differential exploded and tore his subframe into myriad pieces. It took 100+ hours to have it redone it and make it stronger! My 500E transmission is running, at present, a stock final drive ratio - and it has been updated with all 600SL fixes/modifications, for handle extra torque handling. In fact, I do *NOT* have a performance brake package, at present; as such, please send me complete, current Brabus kit pricing and specifications. Specifically, I am looking for 14" front rotors + calipers and 12" or 13" rear rotors + calipers. Please specify the manufacturer (Brembo, Movit, etc.) and whether or not your kit-supplied rotors are cryogenically treated, by default - and if they may be cadmium-plated (or if they already are, as shipped). RSVP / Thank you, - s/m/s -----Original Message----- From: Andreas@brabus-usa.com Sent: Wednesday, April 09, 2003 10:40 AM To: Scott M. Shell Subject: RE: question/quote requests Hallo Mr.Shell, unfortunately we do not sell these parts either. Our 6.5L V8 runs $41,000.00 installed, broken in (500miles) and including tax. I take it that you have already a high performance break system on your car. Are said parts even available, separately, or only as part of the 6.0L upgrade package? RENNtech will *NOT* sell me the parts, a la carte; will Brabus quote me this job, please? In addition, please e-mail complete pricing for a 6.0L (and/or 6.5L, preferably) conversion for my vehicle. My engine # is x6656 and my VIN # is WDBEA36E5PB871190. RSVP / Thank you, Scott M. Shell |

Three Embarcadero Center, SF
As some of you know, I work in an office building in SF called Three Embarcadero Center. After parking in the garage there this morning, I noticed the silver/gray 500E that can always be seen there owned by a guy named Urban who does not frequent this board. Four spots down the row is an black on black 94 E500 with AMG monoblocks (owner unknown)!
Where is my silver/grey 500E this morning? It's not in the office garage; it's parked at home. I feel like a loser. If the owner of the black E500 posts here, make yourself known! -- John |

John, wow if what you say is true then the garage @ Three Embarcadero Center would have the distinction of having the highest concentration of 500E/E500 on a regular basis.

Another sighting
Last night, I was walking to my car in the parking lot of our local swimming pool and explaining to my 9 year old the differences between the 400e we had just walked by in the lot and the 500e. As I got to my car and unlocked it, a guy in a W124 parked just beyond my car said to me "Nice car." I said, "You know this car?" He replied, "I'm driving one." And so he was.
A smoke silver/parchment 93 500e with 101k miles. He bought it last month in Oxnard. I pointed him to this board. Hopefully, he will join in the fun. -- John |
