what is the best performing 190 sedans w201?

well the wife seems to have gotten her arms around this benz thing i've been on for a few years. so now i'm looking to trick out a 190E ??.

my question is ... not considering condition of car, records kept, needed repairs or any kind of variables what would be the top pure stock performers in the 190E type vehicle.

i'm looking to find the hottest or strongest running mini sedan. any year or any of the different types 4 or 6 cyl, turbo or not and the only limit is it would have to be an automatic.

before it even hit the street it would get a complete make over and any repairs would be done complete probably even a new paint job.

i'd really appreciate some input guys. i really don't want to waste time looking at the models that invite snoring while driving.
tks
craig

i will be posting this in the tech section as well

The 1986-87 190E 2.3 16V has the most HP & will outrun any other 190E.

What about mine? Don't I have more torque?

Or mine with a 3 liter M103?

Or even a M104, would it fit?

Except he said it would have to be an automatic

Actually the fastest production 190E was the 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II, but only 502 were made and I don't believe any came to the USA, although they did run catalytic converters.
The top speed on that was 250 KMH, and 0 to 100 kmh was 7.1 seconds.

The 2.3-16 top speed was 215 kmh, and 0 to 100 kmh was 8.5 seconds.

I'm not a big fan of the 102 motor in general though, and the Cosworth head doesn't change my mind any, plus more maintenance concerns for the average owner. If that's what "your in to" fine.
The last series of the 2.6 topped out at 210 kph (vs 215 for the -16) and 0 to 100 kph was 9.0 instead of 8.5. I'd still take the 103 engine ANY day. Try finding one of those "special edition" models they made at the tail end of production, the 2.6 version of those are real cool cars and under-valued.

tks guys for the super quick replies. much appreciated.

well it looks like the direction is 86-87 190e 2.3 w/ 16v.

i'm off any running to start looking. i do have one question not regarding this project.

there was a banner that showed a small white mbz at a quarter mile. was the timer light correct? low 11's in a quarter mile?

that's pretty impressive if it is!! who was the person that owns this car?

tks

Definitely not. That's the problem, the 16 valve engine is quite rare and sometimes you really need to search to find a competant mechanic to even do MAINTENANCE on it, much less repairs. I'd really really rethink what you are proposing to buy.

Yes you can tell by VIN number, the 2.3-16 would start "WDBDA34".
The normal 190E 2.3 (8 valve) are either WDBDA24 or WDBDA28 (depends on early or late production, DA24 is the earlier version).
The 190E2.6, which is what I feel you should look for, is WDBDA29.

You may want to check out www.190revolution.net

It is a 190E specific forum with a few 86-87 16 Valves in the classifieds.

If you must have an automatic, the 16V will not be a fulfilling purchase. The lack of torque truly ruins the car. Please search the forum posted above for more information.

What I'd recommend you at least check out, is what this guy "Limited Edition" (2 posts ago) has for his wife, except his wife has a 2.3 Limited Edition, they also made a 2.6 version, which were all black and debadged, with I believe seats similar to the 16 valve (black with red trim) and real slick looking.
