I have to report more "downs" I'm afraid

Due to the little "d" I have to vacate my house in a bit of a hurry. I have until the end of February to get the heck out of Dodge (as I guess some of you say).
Due to yet more complications I'm moving back to the UK - for several reasons Holland isn't really an option for the short term. The W123 has (unknowingly) taken one more step towards the scrap yard (as I don't have the time needed to transport this sorry state of a W123 to England). I was expecting storage options for the W123 to be rather expensive here in Holland but I've found a nice farmer (well I think he's alright) who looks after caravans and he's willing to stuff the W123 in the back of one of his barns for 200 euros a year. At the moment I can afford that - so the W123 gets a stay of execution. So I gorra put the wheels back on - tow truck is turning up on Friday! Got delayed by that effing differential not wanting to go back on the subframe http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1423656317 Pain in the arse - quick solution fitted with two diametrically opposed studs => It is OK this doesn't have to be road worthy it just has to sit on the back of a truck. Look at the state of the poor thing! http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1423656317 Messing about with (caravan) stand positions to allow for sliding the subframe in from the side of the car http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1423656317 I've had to do it this way because the jacking points on the sills have been cut out for repairs - the rolling the subframe under the back end with the wheels on isn't possible until the welding gets done http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1423656317 Now I'm trying to find those bloody subframe bolts! |
Sorry to hear of your troubles Stretch. Your post gives me hope though as I'm pretty sure I need to completely re-do my front and rear suspensions eventually and it looks like something that's not impossible for a DIY type to tackle.

...could I find the new subframe bolts? Could I bugger. I had to use the old ones.
This one was hiding in a cardboard box of miscellaneous who knows what => http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1423767835 The other one was stuck to the remainder of a bushing. I had to cut the sodding thing off => http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1423767847 Lifting the differential up in the air (don't wave it like you just don't care) http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1423767966 Lifting the front part of the subframe on to axle stands http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1423767973 Lower the car onto the subframe and drop the springs into place I'm not fitting the shocks to the back end so it could be bouncing about on the back of the tow truck. Well it would be but I plan to place some blocks of wood under the differential and then ratchet strop the back end in place to stop it from bouncing about like a twat. There's no way I'm fitting those stupid front springs - I don't want to fit the front anti-roll bar either. I've fitted the LCA and the brake stay and the UCA and I went for the Jed Clampet sports spring special => http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1423768531 So if anyone out there thinks Bilstein HDs are a bit rough - try these! |

Front seats are too heavy not to go with the car (need to save on storage space and van space)
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1423768836 http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1423769236 I'll hopefully have time tomorrow to get some shots of the car off on a tow truck to the storage place. |
Well that's the end of this thread for a bit!

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear about the impending move. Is it possible to rent a trailer over there to get the car to your new place in the UK once you get settled?

...we'll see how that pans out. Other than that an other option is to speak to my uncle who used to be a mechanic and see if he's still got his trailer. Otherwise hire of a self drive tow truck would be about the best part of 500GBP for three to four days in the UK. There's also a vague possibility that I have to come back to Holland after all - but that depends on some legal **** that's going down. I'll know for sure by the end of March on which side of this little bit of water I'm going to be. |
Just when I thought this thread was finished for a while
