1989 300TE Auto Basic Restoration
Hey all, I am the new owner of a Gold 1989 300TE Automatic wagon that I am in the process of performing an amature restoration on.
Car runs and drives, doesn't leak anything, and even the wiring looks like it's in great shape so far! Nothing seems hacked up. This car was taken care of very well for a very long time, then, it seems somewhat recently, somebody who dgaf owned the car. Cigarette packs everywhere, smoker gunk on all switch gear and the front carpets are just...wrecked. My ultimate plan for this car is to turn it into a daily driver. My current daily is a 2007 Corvette manual that I picked up last year with 10,000 miles on the clock. With a VERY tall first gear, traffic is...no fun. It is also not the most practical car ever for hauling people / things. This 300 is a survivor, NOTHING in the front is leaking and I was able to drive it the 40 minutes home without issue. Trans shifts a bit rough from 2-3 and 3-4, hoping that can be solved with just a fluid and filter change. Engine runs great, no hiccups or overheating issues to speak of. Idles nice and steady. Will be replacing spark plugs, wires, and probably distributor in due time. Pretty sure I'll need new shocks all 'round, and will probably replace front and rear bushings and engine mounts in due time. Will also need new gas struts for rear hatch. Interior...needs work. I've cleaned out three mice nests (one behind each side panel in rear and one under center console), vacuumed / ripped up lots of old insulation (will be replacing with Dynamat later). Current state is most of the gunk is gone from the external interior bits, with my next task being completely disassembling the dashboard and console and giving it a thorough cleaning. The paint is fairly well shot. Not sure if I'm going to do much about it just yet. I do not have a real deadline on this project as the car is already driveable as-is. I would like to have the interior cleaned up and dynamat-ed and all fluids changed before I drive it regularly. Anyway, wanted to introduce myself and the car a bit, I will definitely be on here asking questions! |
