OM617 looking for rebuild help in Cape Town
My 1980 300d needs a rebuild/overhaul.
The odometer reading is 440,000km
Car was recently taken to have restoration work, then injector pump
servicing. When it came back and I opened the valve cover, I discovered
that the high lift cam had been "replaced" by a normal cam, the cam turrets changed for lower spec ones and also the correct head had been "exchanged" for a marine spec head. The diesel "specialist" who I gave the job to did a compression test which verified that cylinder number 2 had very low compression. The car is definitely has much less power. After feeling very ripped-off, I would like to enlist the help of someone who has some free time on their hands and has high standards of workmanship. If you have rebuilt one of these old engines before that would give me some peace of mind.
Head only needs to have chain split before it can be removed. I´m interested in adding a K24 turbo when it goes back into the car. I need some help getting a few things done so that it will pass roadworthy testing. You can email me on apehearted(at)gmail.com
