1988 560SL Project

Picked up this 560SL with 138,000 miles for $500 and it has a "broken" engine. Timing appears to have skipped a bit and broke Cam carriages on both sides. Needless to say, I'm going to pull the engine and see if it's salvageable. Never wrenched on a MB before and from the looks of this forum it should help me learn some new tricks. I'll post more as the project goes ahead and am certain to ask questions of the experts.

I'd source another engine. Pretty good chance you've got a piston or two crunched into the heads.

If you decide on replacement, renew the chain guides before installing the engine.

Good deal for $500. I also recommend a used engine. But if you ever want to part with the project let me know.

Thumbs up New Project

Looks very good ! .

No shortage of good used engines for these, as mentioned, take the time to do the cam chain guides so it out lasts you .
