1987 Mercedes 300D Turbo
Hello everyone!,
Very quickly I present to you one of the most recent members of the family! It was kind of a Barn Find... More like a "Farm Find" as it wasn't actually in a barn... A Mercedes W124 300D Turbo from 1987, originally from Canada. We were actually in this place to go get a W124 260E and we (me and my dad) ended up getting this one too as it would be a shame to leave such a gem in there... rotting... It was bought on the start of April... Not much was done still... only oils and filters and a Diesel purge... ANNND of course afirst decent wash in many years I guess :p It should go to the "doctor" soon to see some more "deep mechanical stuff" and go safely on the road again for many km's I hope ![]() It actually has original BBS wheels as well... in terrible shape though Well... to the pictures!! WHEN IT WAS FOUND: WHEN IT ARRIVED HOME: BEFORE THE WASH AFTER THE WASH ![]() Here's the VIN decoding of it btw ![]() And some more stuff waiting to be installed ![]() After the required mechanical overhaul of course which should start next week...More to come

![]() ![]() Some of the gifts he'll receive ![]() ![]() Also, here's a quick interior video I've done to show how it looks after the cleaning i've done weeks ago ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3R-OOsXD_0&t=4s More to come... |

someone did a manual conversion on it as the data file shows a 722.3 transmission and your car clearly has a manual.
Nice car btw |

Be sure to check condition of trap oxidizer
Rafael1703 --
In the US, anyway, this model was the subject of a recall for the trap oxidizer. I've forgotten what was done with them in the recall. Someone else can chime in with more information. In any case, be sure you investigate the status of this car with respect to its trap oxidizer. |

Thanks, It ain't even near to perfect but I'll try to make it better and to make it shine again as it deserves!
BTW: The machanical overhaul starts this week ![]() ![]() Also, only today checked the swapped gearbox... ![]() Originally it had the 722.317 Gearbox... Only today I confirmed the model of the 5-speed gearbox it has now: 717.435 Opinions on this gearbox? Is it decent? Reliable? Strong? Thanks in advance

For now just drain and refill it with the proper lubricant (it's too new for me to know but many modern gearboxes require A.T.F.) and be sure to add at least one magnet then move on .
As long as you don't thrash it nor have a dragging clutch most gearboxes will be fine as you work through the rest of the vehicle . Any gearbox that crunches into reverse at a stand still needs clutch work A.S.A.P. to prevent ruining it .
